We are partnering with a leading global energy trading firm to hire a Front Office Risk Analyst for its London-based team. Working closely with Traders and market specialists, you'll provide independent risk oversight across commodity trading portfolios, helping to assess market exposures, analyse portfolio performance, and support informed commercial decision-making.
This opportunity is well suited to a quantitatively minded professional looking to combine market analysis, risk management, and direct front-office engagement within a fast-paced trading environment.
As part of a lean and commercially focused team, you'll gain broad visibility across trading activity and market developments, helping senior stakeholders understand how changing market conditions impact risk and performance.
You'll be responsible for evaluating portfolio exposures, identifying emerging risks, and contributing to discussions around positioning, volatility, and market dynamics across a range of commodity markets.
Key areas of responsibility include:
- Acting as a key risk partner to front-office teams across multiple trading books.
- Analysing portfolio performance and identifying the factors driving profit and loss.
- Reviewing market exposures and assessing the impact of changing market conditions.
- Producing insightful analysis to support risk discussions and management decision-making.
- Delivering scenario analysis and stress-testing exercises to evaluate potential downside risks.
- Monitoring risk metrics and highlighting significant changes or concentrations.
- Contributing to management reporting and presenting findings to senior stakeholders.
- Working alongside quantitative, analytical, and operational teams to improve risk transparency and controls.
- Supporting the continued enhancement of risk tools, reporting capabilities, and analytical frameworks.
What We're Looking For:
- 2–5 years of experience within Market Risk, Risk Management, Valuations, Product Control, Trading, or a similar front-office risk function.
- Experience gained within an energy trading firm, commodities business, investment bank, or another trading environment.
- Proven ability to work directly with traders and front-office stakeholders.
- Strong understanding of market risk methodologies, including VaR, back-testing, stress testing, and sensitivity analysis.
- Knowledge of commodity markets such as Power, Natural Gas, Oil, LNG, LPG, or Coal.
- Understanding of commodity trading products and derivatives, including physical forwards, swaps, options, and other structured instruments.
Technical Skills Required:
- Advanced Excel skills.
- Python, VBA, SQL, or other analytical/programming experience would be beneficial.
- Experience working with large datasets and developing analytical tools.
- Understanding of quantitative modelling, valuation concepts, or risk methodologies is advantageous.
- Strong academic background in a quantitative discipline such as Mathematics, Engineering, Physics, Economics, Finance, or a related field.
