We are partnering with a leading global investment bank to appoint a Vice President Lead Cloud Engineer within their Corporate Technology / Digital Engineering function. This is a high-impact, hands-on engineering leadership role at the early stages of a major AWS expansion programme. The organisation is in the process of onboarding AWS as a strategic cloud platform alongside an existing multi-cloud estate (Azure and Oracle), and this role will be central to shaping how AWS is designed, governed, and operated across the enterprise.
You will sit within a highly specialist cloud engineering team responsible for designing, building, and supporting public cloud platforms used across global business lines.
The Opportunity
This is not a pure architecture or advisory position; it is a hands-on engineering leadership role with direct responsibility for:
- Defining AWS platform standards, landing zones, and governance frameworks
- Designing and implementing secure, scalable AWS solutions in production
- Supporting AWS onboarding across the enterprise, including service enablement and integration with enterprise tooling
- Providing BAU support and acting as a technical escalation point for AWS-related issues
- Driving automation, reliability, security, and cost optimisation across the AWS estate
- Working closely with application, infrastructure, and security teams to deliver production-grade cloud solutions
What You’ll Be Doing
- Leading AWS engineering design and implementation as the platform is rolled out globally
- Building reusable IaC patterns (Terraform / CloudFormation) and automation frameworks
- Developing AWS landing zones, guardrails, and enterprise-grade architecture standards
- Troubleshooting complex production issues across networking, compute, identity, and automation layers
- Contributing to CI/CD and Git-based engineering practices across cloud delivery
- Producing high-quality technical documentation (designs, runbooks, operational standards)
Key Requirements
We are looking for a deeply technical AWS engineer who is comfortable operating in complex, regulated environments.
- Strong hands-on AWS engineering background in production environments
- Infrastructure as Code (Terraform and/or CloudFormation)
- Strong scripting ability (Python, PowerShell or similar)
- Experience with Git-based workflows and CI/CD pipelines
- Deep understanding of AWS services (EC2, S3, Lambda, VPC, IAM)
- Strong networking and cloud security fundamentals
- Ability to troubleshoot complex distributed cloud environments
Preferred:
- Azure and/or Oracle Cloud exposure in a multi-cloud environment
- AWS Certified Solutions Architect (Professional)
- Financial services / large-scale regulated environment experience
