About the Prints & Multiples Department

Bonhams Prints & Multiples department holds more than 15 live, online and themed auctions each year, offering a wide range of artworks from every artistic and historical movement – from Old Master printmakers such as Rembrandt and Dürer, to Modern and Post-War and Contemporary works by artists such as Picasso, Warhol, and Banksy. As part of the busy and dynamic sales calendar, the Prints & Multiples department also contributes to several themed and cross-category sales. Always open to trends, we steadily try to create and identify new markets for collectors with dynamic and eclectic tastes at every level. The department is made up of an international team based across our London selling locations in new Bond Street and Knightsbridge. Prints & Multiples respond to a high volume of email and telephone enquiries and offer advice and valuation visits to our international clientele while also supporting our network of colleagues in Europe.

About the role

In your role as Cataloguer you will be required to carry out the following:

• To contribute to pre and post-sale administration
• To catalogue and research incoming property for sale and oversee photography of each item
• Efficient handling of client enquiries over the telephone, email and on site
• Liaison with Head of Department and senior staff to ensure prompt advice and service to our customers, and to discuss sensitive areas
• Complete initial research to develop specialist knowledge and to assist senior staff with valuation research
• Assisting with the management of the catalogue including but not limited to overseeing authentication, property control, keeping track of consignments and artwork movements, contributing catalogue notes, proof-reading, and marketing prior to the sales
• Cataloguing the Prints & Multiples sales, including leading hilling sessions and presentations on prints market trends for the department
• To continue to work collaboratively with the specialist team by supporting research and valuations: Walk-in valuations & assisting with VMS, prints shared inbox enquiries, and support specialist valuations
• Helping with the auction set-up and handling of artworks, where necessary, including deliveries and collections, packing and unpacking, framing and unframing, and lotting prior to the sales
• Collecting and managing departmental files and maintaining and supporting the ongoing development of a database of clients – both buyers and sellers – for the department
• Executing and sending condition reports in collaboration with senior staff
• Supporting departmental events and telephone bidding
• To continue to play a leading role in business intelligence and client research; updating databases and anticipating growth areas
• Assisting the Head of Department with strategies to grow the business intelligence / business development of the department including maintaining and creating interest and marketing lists
• Keep exploring areas where your career can grow in terms of client development, expertise, and ultimately business getting

In addition to the tasks and responsibilities listed, you may be required to perform other duties as assigned by your Manager.

Key Skills and Attributes

• Excellent word processing skills, knowledge of MS Word and Excel
• Excellent time people skills and organisational skills
• Excellent interpersonal and communication skills both written and oral
• Ability to be discrete and keep confidentiality
• Flexibility and the ability to be a team player
• Experience in an Auction house, gallery or museum is preferred
• Foreign language skills are desired
