About the Department

Bonhams Modern British & Irish Art department offers the most artworks annually in this category, specializing in major movements from Edwardian Art to the London School.

We hold five dedicated auctions a year in London, plus a roster of themed sales such as Blazing a

Trail: Modern British Women and Charlie Mackesy, and three annual online Knightsbridge auctions featuring works by L.

Lowry, Alan Lowndes, Mary Fedden, Gary Bunt, Bryan Pearce, Ken Howard and John Piper.

Key Responsibilities

  • Use Auctioneer 3, Bonhams’ bespoke Auction Management System to manage clients and property throughout the sale cycle.
  • Receive and process property into A3, generate and issue consignment contracts, upload client details and manage payment.
  • Act as the primary departmental contact for external stakeholders (clients, restorers, suppliers) and coordinate escalation to Specialists when required.
  • Coordinate shipment and stock transfer, working with regional offices, Shipping, Operations & Photography.
  • Support Client Services, Operations and Shipping with after‑sale enquiries, payment resolution and shipping quotes for purchased and unsold lots.
  • Assist in preparing valuations, condition reports and condition photography as needed.
  • Support day‑to‑day auction activities, including responding to client enquiries pre and post sale, bidding and event management.
  • Perform other duties assigned by the manager.

Qualifications

  • Strong time‑management and organisational ability.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Ability to manage workflow and priorities in a fast‑moving environment.
  • Flexible approach with willingness to support other departments and teams outside of core duties.
  • Previous experience in an administrative position (auction background not required).
