We are currently recruiting for a Clinical Negligence Paralegal who will be based in Liverpool. This is an exciting opportunity for someone who is passionate about the work they do, the service they provide and getting the best results for their clients. We are looking to further expand our Clinical Negligence team and are looking for a Paralegal to provide direct support to the team of Fee Earners, enabling the department to operate at optimum efficiency while working with a high degree of self‑management and initiative. Responsibilities

  • Support the fee earner in all aspects of case management.
  • Take full liability and quantum statements from clients at the outset of a case.
  • Take statements from clients and witnesses, drafting these as appropriate.
  • Represent clients at hearings where you have appropriate rights of audience and the firm believes you have the experience and expertise to do so (PADs and ISH).
  • Undertake progress chasing work as per the workflow allocated by the fee earner and deal with some routine post work under supervision.
  • Consider limitation from the medical records.
  • Check medical records for completeness and arrange pagination.
  • Draft letters of instruction to experts.
  • Begin quantification of a claim and gather financial information for a schedule of damages.
  • Attend clients by telephone and in person to provide updates on progress and to support them professionally in keeping with the firm’s client‑care standards.
  • Negotiate with third parties and other stakeholders to secure the best possible outcome for the client.
  • Deal with post‑issue claims, including instructing, working with barristers and producing bundles and pre‑trial checklists.
  • Complete drafting as required, including schedule of losses, PAD applications and other documentation.
  • Assess quantum and attend conferences with counsel.
  • Ensure confidentiality of all firm and client documentation and information.
  • Be flexible and adaptable in taking on new roles within your capabilities.
  • Undertake any other duties as reasonably required from time to time.
  • Attend client meetings with a solicitor.

About You

  • Knowledge of the Resolution of clinical disputes protocol.
  • Excellent interpersonal and customer‑service skills.
  • The ability to use a high degree of self‑management and initiative to prioritise workloads.
  • Law degree and preferably having passed the Legal Practice Course.
