Job Summary A Patient Care Technician (PCT) at Maryview Medical Center provides basic health care and support to patients under the guidance of a Registered Nurse or designated healthcare professional. The PCT sanitizes and cleans patient rooms, monitors vital signs, and assists patients with feeding, grooming, and basic needs.
Essential Job Functions:
- Provides basic patient care, including comfort, vital sign measurement, personal care and hygiene, and mobility assistance.
- Acts as liaison between patient and nurse to report changes and/or concerns.
- Provides high-level customer service to all patients, families, visitors, and employees.
- Provides accurate, precise, and timely documentation for patient care.
- Participates in hand-off/report of pertinent information regarding patient and departmental needs upon arrival and when leaving.
- Performs delegated tasks once competency has been validated.
- Mobilizes patients using therapeutic transfer techniques to foster independence and safety.
- Encourages patients to complete tasks independently as much as possible.
- Individualises care based on patient interests and hobbies.
Education: None required.
Licensure/Certification: BLS Basic Life Support (preferred upon hire; must obtain from an approved source prior to direct patient care). Must have completed one of the following: successful completion of a nursing aide training program; passing of STNA State Tested Nurse Aide (required if OH LTC); CNA certified nurse aide; nurses aide state testing; or completed a nursing program that had one clinical nursing course and one clinical rotation; or 1 year of relevant experience in a clinical setting.
Experience: Recent experience in acute care, physician's office, home health/hospice, or long-term care facility is preferred, though not required.
Skills & Abilities: Possesses problem-solving skills with excellent communication and interpersonal abilities. Engages with staff and patients professionally. Shows proactive initiative in a rapidly changing environment.
Training: EPIC Electronic Health Record (EHR) training (preferred).
