Job Summary

The Lab Histology/Cytology Assistant position is an entry level position that performs routine functions to aid in the preparation of histopathology and/or cytology samples. The assistant works under general supervision of trained Histology techs and/or Cytology techs.

Essential Job Functions

  • Performs multiple computer functions using the laboratory information system.
  • Performs secretarial and clerical duties (e.g., answering phones, assisting clients and patients, etc.).
  • Assists pathology, histology, and/or cytology staff.
  • Performs special procedures.
  • Prepares specimens, slides, blocks, reports, patient information, and other pertinent materials for mailing to referral sites or pickup by patients, family members, or physicians' office personnel.
  • May perform specimen collection.
