The Certified Medical Assistant is a key component of our team that works closely with the primary care physician to deliver excellent patient care to our community, ensuring services are provided within the Medical Assisting scope and state guidelines. The CMA is responsible for reviewing and updating health records, measuring vital signs, and preparing treatment rooms for upcoming examinations.
Essential Functions- Provides excellent customer service by greeting patients and the community in a respectful manner.
- Prepares and reviews patient charts for upcoming visits by verifying that all diagnostic test results, hospital reports, and other medical records are correct and up to date.
- Measures vital signs such as pulse rate, respiration, blood pressure, weight, and height.
- Performs departmental-related clerical duties such as checking inventory, stocking supplies, tracking referrals, and answering phones as needed.
- Must possess the ability to troubleshoot and resolve problems promptly.
- Other duties as assigned.
- High School Degree or GED.
- Active Medical Assisting certification from one of the following (required): Certified Medical Assistant (CMA); American Association of Medical Assisting, Registered Medical Assistant (RMA); American Medical Technologists, Certified Clinical Medical Assistant (CCMA); National Healthcareer Association (NHA); Nationally Registered Certified Medical Assistant (NRCMA); National Association for Health Professionals, National Certified Medical Assistant (NCMA); National Center for Competency Testing (NCCT).
- If incumbent is unable to obtain MA certification, an Assessment-Based Recognition in Order Entry (ABR-OE) is acceptable (not accepted in the state of South Carolina).
- BLS Basic Life Support, American Heart Association (required at hire for certain locations; preferred at hire, required prior to independent patient care).
- One year of medical assistant healthcare experience (preferred, not required).
- Two years of clerical experience in a physician’s office (preferred, not required).
- Problem-solving skills, basic computer skills, with excellent communication and interpersonal abilities.
- Professional interaction with staff and patients.
