Vascular Technologist - Maryview Medical Center

The Vascular Technologist performs diagnostic, non-invasive, vascular exams on patients using ultrasound and physiologic testing equipment to evaluate the cerebrovascular, peripheral arterial, and peripheral venous systems. Job may also include abdominal vascular evaluation. On-call is required.

Essential Job Functions

• Performs high quality diagnostic vascular laboratory examinations using ultrasound and physiologic testing equipment to evaluate the cerebrovascular, peripheral arterial, peripheral venous systems and adheres to exam protocols except when deviation is clinically necessary.
• Prepares patients for procedures, including explaining the procedure and providing instructions in order to obtain the desired results, gain cooperation, and minimise patient anxiety.
• Contacts referring physician (or other appropriate medical personnel) for clarification prior to performing an exam if there is a suspicion that the exam order is incorrect.
• Utilises the hospital electronic medical record to review patient information, enter preliminary reporting, and document any critical findings in accordance with department policy.
• Completes assigned tasks in a time frame appropriate for the situation.

• Adheres to all standards and policies regarding safety initiatives, infection control policies, and protecting patient confidentiality.
• Demonstrates ability to perform non-invasive vascular exams at the level of proficiency.
• Demonstrates knowledge of vascular anatomy, exam procedures, interpretation criteria, and correlation of vascular lab exam results with other hospital procedures.
• Performs all other duties as assigned.

Licensing/Certification

• Credentialed in vascular technology by one of the following organizations preferred at time of hire, required within 1 year: Registered Vascular Sonographer (RVT) by the American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonographers (ARDMS), or Vascular Sonographer by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT), or Registered Vascular Specialist (RVS) by Cardiovascular Credentialing International (CCI) (required).
• BLS Basic Life Support, American Heart Association (required at hire for Roper St Francis Healthcare locations; preferred at hire, required prior to independent patient care at BSMH).

Education

• Associate's degree in an applied health science field with concentration in cardiovascular technology, ultrasonography or other related study (preferred).

Work Experience

• One year of experience as vascular technologist (preferred).

Training

• EPIC Electronic Health Record (EHR) (preferred).
• Picture archiving communication system (PACS) (preferred).
