Bombardier’s Business Aircraft London Service Centre in Biggin Hill is part of an award‑winning network and is the flagship of Bombardier’s European operation. This Base and Line Maintenance Centre is the fastest‑growing Service Centre in Europe and the largest Business Aircraft OEM in the UK. The facility has the capabilities to perform an array of maintenance checks, modifications and upgrades all from this site. Only 14 miles from London, Bombardier’s Biggin Hill Service Centre is ideally located to support operators in the UK region and beyond.

The Team Lead reports directly to the UMT Maintenance Team Manager (MTM) and is responsible for the safe, compliant, efficient and on‑time delivery of aircraft maintenance inputs. The role includes day‑to‑day technical management of assigned aircraft and effective leadership of allocated personnel.

In your role, you will:

  • Technical & Operational Delivery
    • Take full ownership of the technical delivery of aircraft maintenance inputs.
    • Ensure efficient use of resources – verify labour requirements for each input.
    • Actively engage with supply chain, planning, quality/compliance and HSE teams to drive tasks to completion.
    • Provide technical status updates to UMT leadership, Senior Leadership and Project Management teams when required.
    • Oversee Hangar 446/bay operational standards, including 5S, housekeeping/husbandry and HSE compliance.
    • Lead and encourage continuous improvement initiatives at shop‑floor level.
    • Participate in the Safety Action Group as the designated representative (as required).
    • Meet or exceed direct target hours and Team Leader performance targets including DOI and admin hours.
    • Complete, oversee or certify on aircraft tasks to support efficient delivery.
    • Perform Category C certifications as required.
    • Deputise for MTM when necessary.
    • Participate in “duty phone” coverage & emails for out‑of‑hours operational/customer updates.
  • Shift & Maintenance Management
    • On a shift basis, be responsible for all maintenance and ground activities required to achieve on‑time aircraft delivery.
    • Ensure completion of all planned and ad‑hoc maintenance tasks through effective supervision and resource allocation.
    • Maintain all required qualifications and authorisations for applicable aircraft types.
    • Act as Health & Safety Representative for the shift, ensuring compliance with all environmental and H&S regulations.
    • Manage airmanship standards ensuring regulatory and procedural compliance to maintain aircraft airworthiness.
    • Be fully familiar with and ensure team adherence to MOE/WPI/GPI inspection systems and procedures.
    • Ensure all personnel assigned to tasks are qualified and competent.
    • Work with the MTM and Liaison Engineer to coordinate aircraft movement within the hangar.
  • Leadership & People Management
    • Directly supervise technicians performing maintenance activities.
    • Provide meaningful input for PMP grading and support MTM with staff disciplinary processes as required.
    • Promote safe working practices and always ensure adherence to company procedures and PPE requirements.
    • Support business transformation initiatives and foster a culture of continuous improvement.
    • Delegate effectively and promote teamwork, mutual respect and professional conduct.
  • Cross Functional Collaboration
    • Work with MTM and CPM to achieve quality, cost, and delivery targets.
    • Support supply chain in coordinating 3rd‑party vendor activity including ensuring correct technical data is used and verifying work quality on completion.
    • Provide input on future GSE and tooling requirements to MTM & Procurement.

As an ideal candidate, you have:

  • UK CAA or EASA Part‑66 Category B1.1 or B2 licence with Category C.
  • Type ratings on relevant Bombardier aircraft.
  • Demonstrated experience in AOG, line, and heavy maintenance environments.
  • Strong understanding of Environmental, Health & Safety rules, Human Factors, and associated regulations.
  • Up‑to‑date UK CAA and/or EASA Part‑145 regulatory training.
  • Health & Safety training (relevant certifications preferred).
  • Leadership or managerial training/demonstrate team management skills.
  • Excellent working knowledge of Part‑145 requirements for line, base, and AOG/offsite maintenance.
  • Strong understanding of Part‑M/CAMO responsibilities and their interaction with 145 MRO operations.
  • Clear and professional written and verbal communication skills.
  • Excellent understanding of production planning and resource management for effective input delivery.
  • Strong decision‑making ability, capable of making sound judgments under pressure.
  • Ability to escalate technical, compliance, customer, or personnel issues appropriately.
  • Demonstrated ability to coach, develop, and support team capability growth.
  • Intermediate to advanced computer literacy, with strong knowledge of engineering IT systems.
  • Proven experience supervising and managing large teams through complex maintenance inputs.
  • Ability to take responsibility for own work and ongoing professional development.
