Bombardier’s Business Aircraft London Service Centre in Biggin Hill is part of an award-winning network and is the flagship of Bombardier’s European operation. This Base and Line Maintenance Centre is the fastest-growing Service Centre in Europe and the largest Business Aircraft OEM in the UK. The facility has the capabilities to perform an array of maintenance checks, modifications and upgrades all from this site. Only 14 miles from London, Bombardier’s Biggin Hill Service Centre is ideally located to support operators in the UK region and beyond.
Position Summary
Prepare aircraft for primer, paint, and striping by performing stripping, buffing, and sanding, and related preparation tasks. Apply primer, paint, stripes, vinyl appliques, and decals. Inspect, perform touch-up, and polish painted surfaces for a finished appearance.
Environment & Additional Requirements
- Occasional periods requiring use of conventional and portable power tools, working on uneven or elevated surfaces, and working in confined spaces.
- Working in awkward positions, and working with vibrating tools and equipment.
- Frequent exposure to general shop conditions and machine noise.
- Frequent exposure to hot temperatures.
- Occasional exposure to seasonal weather.
- Frequent exposure to toxic or corrosive chemicals, liquid coatings, and solvents.
- Occasional exposure to flammables, adhesives, lubricants, composites, and sealants.
- Prolonged periods of mental and visual attention to detailed work to prevent damage to aircraft.
- Ability to identify and distinguish between colors.
- Ability to wear respirator as required.
- Job location may be in a non-air-conditioned hangar or work area.
In your role, you will
- Adhere to General Work Requirements.
- Read engineering drawings to identify the tasks to be performed in preparation for the application of chemicals and paint to aircraft surface.
- Apply safety absorbent to hangar floor and spray aircraft surface with stripper to remove all paint.
- Assist with moving aircraft to appropriate bay.
- Mask, unmask, and re-mask appropriate areas of aircraft surface to ensure complete protection of windows and other areas susceptible to damage.
- Remove stripper, excess paint, and/or contaminants using water, solvents, air blower, and/or brushes.
- Sand, grind, and buff polished areas of aircraft surface, apply putty to body dents, and replace sealer in preparation for the application of primer and paint.
- Apply Alodine to aircraft surface using spray equipment.
- Perform touch-up work as required.
- Document work performed per Inspection Procedures Manual (IPM).
- Perform above tasks in support of production, flight test, and other outside areas as required.
- Assist other employees in the performance of their duties within area(s) of qualification.
As our ideal candidate, you have
- Experience with preparation and painting aircraft or equivalent preferred.
- Ability to read and interpret engineering documents and customer instructions.
- Ability to mask corresponding areas of aircraft surface using appropriate materials and methods per operation.
- Ability to prepare aircraft surface for paint, for example, sanding, grinding, buffing, sealing, application of putty, and Alodine to areas of aircraft surface.
- Ability to operate powered lifts as required.
