In 2018, Bolton Hospice opened The Old Bank Café in Astley Bridge. It soon became a hub in the community, while at the same time raising much needed funds to allow the hospice to provide expert care for local people when they need it most. We are now looking for an enthusiastic, friendly and passionate individual to support the smooth running of our café.
£12.51 per hour Ad Hoc, flexible working hours. Interviews will be scheduled for Friday, 16th January 2026.
The Role: Reporting to the Café Manager and working closely with a team of volunteers and other paid members of staff you will oversee the day to day running of the café on the manager’s days off and support the smooth running of the café whilst working with the Café Manager. This will include assisting in the preparation of food and drink, serving customers and maintaining cleanliness standards in the Café. This role is part of our Bank Team so hours are flexible to suit the needs of the organisation.
What you need: This is a hands on role involving preparing food and drink and serving customers, so you’ll need to be comfortable working in both a practical role and occasionally in a supervisory capacity. You’ll need to have experience in a similar environment and a level 2 food hygiene and safety certificate (although we will provide the training for this qualification if you don’t have it already), plus a commitment to providing excellent customer service. The successful candidate will also be able to supervise a team of volunteers, have excellent communication and interpersonal skills and thrive in a busy environment.
For an informal discussion about the role and working for Bolton Hospice, please email a request to recruitment@boltonhospice.org and a member of the team will be in touch. Bolton Hospice welcomes applications from all sections of the community, regardless of age, disability, sex, race, religion or belief, marital status or sexual orientation. Any appointment will be made on merit alone. Any offer of employment for this post will be subject to a satisfactory DBS check. Bolton Hospice has a No Smoking Policy.
