Rumworth School is seeking to recruit an exceptional and innovative experienced senior leader to join us in this newly created role to assist in the effective running of one of the largest secondary special schools in the country. Rumworth School is a highly regarded Local Education Authority maintained special school in Bolton with an excellent reputation for providing an outstanding provision for all students.
We currently cater for a range of learning difficulties and additional needs for around 340 students in 35 classes, with a planned expansion to offer 400 places. Our students are aged 11-19 and they all have an EHCP because they have a range of SEND which may include: Moderate and Severe Learning Difficulties, Complex Needs, Neurodiversity, Hearing and Visual Impairment, Physical Disability and Social, Emotional and Mental Health Needs.
You will ideally have a minimum of 3 years of senior leadership experience, likely currently working as an Assistant Headteacher or Deputy Headteacher in a mainstream or special setting, secondary or primary. You will oversee day-to-day pastoral responsibilities for students in KS3 & KS4, working with your team of an Associate Assistant Headteacher, five Pastoral Lead Teachers, and three Family Liaison Officers.
You will collaborate with curriculum TLR holders, teachers, instructors, and teaching assistants to ensure the curriculum and enrichment activities remain engaging, appropriate, and challenging for our diverse student body. Our ethos is “Start with the young person,” and our vision is “You can do it, we will help,” emphasizing small class sizes and high adult-to-student ratios.
You will champion our philosophy of supporting young people to be “Confident, Resilient and Independent” through a rich array of life experiences and activities. Year 7 operates as a “Foundation Year,” with a focus on transition from primary school, including access to specialist rooms and lessons from specialist teachers. Students in Years 8-11 follow a differentiated curriculum based on their needs, with external accreditation options including GCSEs, ASDAN, BTEC, Functional Skills, and Entry Level Certification. KS5 offers continued tailored education, including pathways to employment or independence for students with complex needs.
