The College is looking to appoint a Pastoral and Wellbeing Mentor to provide a complementary service to both teaching and support staff, addressing the needs of learners who need help to overcome barriers to learning both inside and outside of the classroom in order to achieve their potential.

Ideally, you will:

  • Hold a professional qualification and/or training at Level 3 or casework experience in supporting learners with a diverse range of needs
  • Hold GCSEs in English and maths at grade 4/C or above or equivalent
  • Possess a Level 2 Counselling qualification or equivalent
  • Have experience of working with young people, in a pastoral role, on a one-to-one basis, within a Further Education setting
  • Have experience liaising with schools and other agencies including mental health professionals and putting supportive strategies in place
  • Have an empathetic approach to working individually with young people and adults

Day-to-day responsibilities:

  • Proactively mentor, buddy and advocate learners
  • Organise the implementation of planned support strategies in order to meet targets
  • Promote the inclusion of all learners into an educational environment
  • Take responsibility with course tutors and support staff for the identification, support and signposting (where appropriate) of at-risk learners
  • Demonstrate values and behaviours suitable to work with students and within the team
  • Work under pressure with changing priorities with good organisational and administrative skills

As an individual you will be committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children, young people and adults at risk, and will therefore be required to undergo an enhanced DBS check.
