A Level 3 Nursery Practitioner is responsible for providing high-quality care, learning and development for children aged 0–5, while ensuring their safety, wellbeing and individual needs are met.

Key responsibilities include:

• Safeguarding: Ensure children are kept safe from harm and follow the nursery’s safeguarding and child protection procedures. Recognise and report concerns about a child’s welfare, including signs of abuse or neglect, and follow the correct reporting procedures.
• Childcare and wellbeing: Provide a safe, caring, nurturing and stimulating environment that supports children’s physical and emotional wellbeing.
• Learning and development: Plan and support age-appropriate activities based on children’s interests, needs and development, in line with the EYFS.
• Observation and assessment: Observe children, record their development and identify areas where additional support may be required.
• SEN/SEND support: Recognise and respond to children with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND), adapting activities, communication and the environment to meet individual needs.
• Individual support: Work with the SENCO, parents/carers and other professionals to implement and review individual targets and support strategies.
• Inclusion: Promote equality, inclusion and positive relationships, ensuring every child is supported to participate, develop and make progress.
• Health and safety: Follow nursery procedures relating to risk assessments, accidents, medication, hygiene, food safety, emergency procedures and the safe supervision of children.
• Communication: Build positive relationships with children, parents/carers and colleagues and share relevant information appropriately and professionally.
• Teamwork: Work effectively as part of the nursery team and contribute to planning, meetings and the continuous improvement of practice.
• Professional responsibilities: Maintain confidentiality, follow nursery policies and procedures, attend required training and keep knowledge of EYFS, safeguarding and SEND requirements up to date.
