An exciting opportunity has arisen for a hands-on Senior Production & Quality Engineer to join a well-established electronics manufacturing business. This is a varied role combining production engineering and quality, with approximately 75% of the position based on the shop floor and 25% focused on desk-based activities.
Working closely with production, engineering and quality teams, you will help improve manufacturing processes, resolve quality issues and ensure products consistently meet the required standards.
Duties of a Senior Quality & Production Engineer:
- Work closely with production teams on the shop floor to improve processes and product quality
- Develop and improve manufacturing processes, work instructions, tooling and fixtures
- Support new product introduction and ensure products are suitable for manufacture
- Program, operate and troubleshoot automated test and production equipment
- Carry out root-cause investigations using tools such as 8D, 5-Why and Fishbone analysis
- Support and maintain the Quality Management System in line with ISO 9001
- Monitor production quality, yields and key performance indicators
- Implement corrective and preventative actions to reduce defects and improve efficiency
- Support testing and inspection activities
- Provide guidance and technical support to production operators and technicians
- Identify opportunities for continuous improvement using Lean and 5S principles
- Support supplier quality activities and investigate component-related issues
What you need to apply for Senior Quality & Production Engineer:
- Hands-on experience within an electronics or electrical manufacturing environment
- Strong production engineering background, ideally with some quality experience
- Experience working directly on the shop floor rather than purely in a desk-based engineering role
- Experience with electronic assembly and hand assembly techniques
- Knowledge of IPC standards and automated test/assembly equipment
- Experience working with ISO 9001, QMS and quality audits
- Ability to read and interpret electrical/electronic schematics, BOMs and engineering drawings
- Strong problem-solving and root-cause analysis skills
- Experience with continuous improvement, Lean or 5S methodologies
- Strong communication skills and the ability to work effectively with production, engineering and quality teams
- A practical, hands-on approach with the confidence to get involved and solve problems on the shop floor
- Ability to commute to the site within approximately 45 minutes
