Bolt Technical are recruiting on behalf of a global designer and manufacturer supporting industries including telecommunications, satellite communications, test & measurement, and emerging automotive applications. This is a brand-new role within the UK operation. You will work on front-end software used to control and visualise complex electronic test equipment, collaborating closely with hardware and firmware teams in the UK and the US.
The Role: As a Front-End Software Engineer, you will design, develop, and maintain modern graphical user interfaces for technical systems. This is a hands-on role requiring a high level of autonomy. We are open to both experienced engineers and junior/early-career developers who demonstrate strong fundamentals, initiative, and a desire to grow within a highly technical environment.
Key Responsibilities:
- Design and develop modern GUI applications for electronic test and measurement instruments
- Build intuitive user interfaces for controlling RF and electronic test equipment
- Develop real-time data visualisation tools including plots, dashboards, and diagnostic displays
- Integrate software with instrument control APIs (SCPI, VISA, USB, Ethernet, serial protocols)
- Optimise performance for real-time data acquisition and high-throughput environments
- Collaborate closely with hardware, firmware, and test engineering teams
- Create automated tests to ensure software reliability and usability
- Contribute to UX discussions, wireframes, and workflow design
- Support production and field teams with troubleshooting and enhancements
- Engage with end users to understand requirements and improve product value
What We're Looking For:
- Experience in a software engineering or front-end development role (junior to senior level considered)
- Strong experience or exposure to Electron, Node.js, JavaScript, and HTML
- Interest or experience in hardware-controlled or technical systems
- Exposure to electronic test equipment or instrumentation environments
- Understanding of RF, analogue, or digital measurement principles
- Experience interacting with embedded systems or firmware (or a strong interest in doing so)
- Ability to work independently and take ownership of tasks
- Strong communication skills and a collaborative mindset
