PPA Cover / PE Specialist / Sports Coach
Essential Skills & Core Competencies
- Classroom Management &PPA Delivery: Ability to independently plan, prepare, and deliver high-quality learningactivities across the primary age range (EYFS, KS1, and KS2) duringteachers' PPA time.
- PE & Sports Coaching
Expertise: Capability to design and deliver a progressive, inclusive, and engagingphysical education curriculum that inspires all pupils, regardless ofability following our PE curriculum.
- Behaviour Management: Outstanding skills inmanaging classroom and outdoor behaviour positively, maintaining a safe, respectful and productive learning environment.
- Adaptability &Differentiation: Ability to adapt pre-planned lessons on the spot to meet the diverse needsof pupils, including those with SEND or EAL.
- Assessment & Feedback: Strong skills in assessingpupil progress during cover sessions and providing clear verbal andwritten feedback to class teachers.
- Leadership & Initiative: Confidence to lead largegroups, help organise whole-school sporting events and manageextracurricular sports clubs.
- Communication &Collaboration: Excellent interpersonal skills to work effectively alongside class teachers, senior leadership, parents, and external sports partners.
Experience
- Primary School Experience: Proven experience workingas a Sports Coach or HLTA within a primary school setting, with a trackrecord of successfully leading whole classes.
- Curriculum Delivery: Demonstrable experiencedelivering primary PE across the National Curriculum.
- Extracurricular Engagement: Experience in organising, running, or assisting with lunchtime and after-school sports clubs, fixtures, or competitive school games.
- Developing PE Initiatives: Experience developing theschool’s wider PE profile, such as introducing new sports, managing sportspremium initiatives or promoting healthy lifestyles.
- Safeguarding & Welfare: A deep understanding ofsafeguarding procedures, health and safety regulations in a schoolenvironment, and risk assessing physical activities.
- Preferred Qualifications & Training
- HLTA Status: Meet the Higher Level Teaching Assistant standards (or hold an equivalent/higher teachingqualification, e. g., Foundation Degree in Education, BA in Education, or QTS).
- Sports Coaching
Qualifications: Holda recognized Level 2 (or higher) sports coaching qualification in one ormore sports, or a Level 3/4 Certificate in Supporting the Delivery of Physical Education and School Sport.
- Core Literacy/Numeracy: GCSE Grade C/4 or above (orequivalent) in English and Mathematics.
- First Aid: Valid First Aidqualification (or a willingness to undergo Paediatric/Sports First Aidtraining).
Desirable Attributes
- Experience in coordinatingwith local sports partnerships or organising inter-school tournaments.
- Knowledge of the Primary PEand Sport Premium funding guidelines.
