Role Description

The Senior Scrub Nurse is a full-time, on-site role based at the clinic in the Manchester area, supporting surgical procedures across specialties such as orthopedics, dermatology, and aesthetics. The role involves preparing the operating room, checking and organizing equipment and instruments, and ensuring adherence to aseptic techniques and infection control standards. The Senior Scrub Nurse will scrub for procedures, anticipate the needs of the surgical team, manage surgical instruments and consumables, and maintain accurate counts and documentation. This position also includes supervising and mentoring junior perioperative staff, collaborating with surgeons, anesthetists, and recovery teams, and contributing to continuous quality improvement initiatives. The role requires strong clinical judgment, attention to detail, and a calm, professional approach to patient care and safety.

Qualifications

• Strong foundation in Nursing, with current professional registration and experience in perioperative or theatre nursing.
• Proficiency in Surgery and Operating Room practices, including sterile technique, instrument handling, and intraoperative patient safety.
• Experience or familiarity with Orthopedic Surgery and related perioperative care processes.
• Knowledge of Medicine relevant to surgical and post-operative patient assessment and monitoring.
• Demonstrated ability to lead, mentor, and support multidisciplinary theatre teams.
• Excellent communication, prioritization, and decision-making skills in high-pressure clinical environments.
• Commitment to patient-centered care, safeguarding, and adherence to CQC and clinical governance standards.
• Previous experience as a scrub nurse or senior theatre nurse in a surgical or private clinic setting; leadership experience is an advantage.
• Relevant post-registration qualifications or courses in perioperative nursing, orthopedics, or surgical care are desirable.
