As a Senior Aerodynamics Surface Design Engineer, you will collaborate closely with aerodynamicists, design engineers, CFD analysts, manufacturing, testing, and development teams. Your role serves as a link between departments, guaranteeing seamless integration of aerodynamic design within the wider engineering and operational functions of the Formula 1 team. You will also closely collaborate with design engineers to transform aerodynamic theories into intricate CAD models and engage with computational fluid dynamics analysts for simulations and analyses. Effective collaboration with CFD specialists or simulation engineers is pivotal in ensuring the validation of designs.
What You Will Do
- Designing Surfaces: creating and designing aerodynamic surfaces using CATIA, focusing on components such as wings, diffusers, sidepods, and other aerodynamic elements.
- Collaboration and Communication: working closely with aerodynamicists, engineers, and other team members to understand performance requirements, constraints, and evolving design objectives.
- CAD Modeling: developing detailed CAD models and prototypes for aerodynamic surfaces, ensuring they meet aerodynamic targets and manufacturing feasibility.
- Optimization: iteratively refining designs based on simulation results, wind tunnel testing, and real‑world performance data to maximize aerodynamic efficiency and downforce while minimizing drag.
- Prototyping and Testing: collaborating with the manufacturing team to create prototypes for wind tunnel testing and subsequent on‑track evaluations.
- Documentation and Reporting: maintaining detailed documentation of designs, simulations, test results, and reporting progress and findings to the broader engineering team.
- Keeping Up with Regulations: staying updated with FIA regulations and guidelines to ensure designs comply with the governing body's rules.
- Problem Solving: addressing design challenges, troubleshooting issues, and proposing innovative solutions to improve aerodynamic performance within regulatory constraints.

Minimum Requirements
- Mechanical Engineering degree or equivalent R&D design experience.
- Minimum five years of professional experience in a similar position.
- Motorsport background.

- Proficiency in advanced surface modeling techniques within CATIA for intricate aerodynamic model design.
- Ability to maintain a structured and organized design tree within CATIA for efficient model management.
- Creation of sturdy and robust models in CATIA, ensuring durability.
- Expertise in developing functional prototypes using various manufacturing methods, aligning with aerodynamic testing needs.
- FIA regulatory understanding.
- Proficiency in English.
