Want to lead a team while still building, shaping, and owning technology that has a real-world impact? At Bohr, the platforms you help build don't just power software, they help reduce methane emissions across the UK & Europe's gas networks. This is an opportunity to take on a hands-on leadership role, working on real-world systems that directly support cleaner, safer infrastructure and the transition to net zero.
About Bohr: Bohr exists to decarbonise energy through innovation. Through our methane emissions division, Tectrac, we combine mobile leak detection technology with cloud platforms, analytics, and GIS-led insight. Our systems help utilities detect, prioritise, and repair methane leaks faster, cutting emissions and improving safety across the UK and Europe.
The Role: We're looking for a Tech Lead to join our engineering team and help shape the next phase of our digital platform. This is a genuinely balanced role, combining leadership, stakeholder collaboration, and hands-on delivery. You'll lead a small team of engineers while remaining close to the code, helping define how we build, scale, and improve our systems. You'll work closely with product, data, and operations teams to turn ideas into working solutions, while also acting as a key technical voice across the business. This is not a role where you step away from engineering; you'll still be actively contributing across both frontend and backend.
The Tech: You don't need to tick every box, but our platform is built around a modern, data-driven stack:
- Frontend: React and TypeScript, with a focus on performance, accessibility, and scalable UI components
- Backend: Modern Java, building RESTful services to handle high-volume, real-world data
- Cloud & Infrastructure: Azure, with CI/CD pipelines, containerisation, and a focus on scalable, reliable systems
- Data & Domain: Geospatial and time-series data, powering analytics and decision-making for utilities
What Success Looks Like:
- Leading a high-performing engineering team while staying hands-on with delivery
- Providing clear technical direction and architecture decisions across the platform
- Driving strong collaboration between engineering, product, and the wider business
- Building reliable, scalable systems supporting real-world methane detection and analysis
- Continuously improving how the team builds, tests, and delivers software
What We're Looking For: We're looking for someone who combines strong engineering fundamentals with the ability to lead and influence.
Essential:
- Strong full-stack engineering experience (frontend + backend)
- Experience working with modern Java and/or React/TypeScript
- Experience leading, mentoring, or supporting other engineers
- Cloud experience (Azure preferred)
- Comfortable working in a fast-moving, evolving environment
- Strong communication and stakeholder engagement skills
Desirable:
- Experience in startup or scale-up environments
- Exposure to data-heavy, geospatial, or analytics-driven systems
- Experience shaping architecture or technical direction
- Interest in climate tech or infrastructure-related challenges
What's In It For You? At Bohr, you won't just be leading a team, you'll be building technology that directly impacts how energy networks operate and how emissions are reduced across the UK & Europe. You'll also get:
- Hybrid working with flexibility, based in our Bristol office
- Salary up to £100,000 (BOE)
- Pension contributions
- 25 days holiday plus 8 bank holidays
- Participation in our EMI share scheme
If you're looking for a role where you can lead, stay hands-on, and build something that has real-world impact, this is a great opportunity to do exactly that.
