As a Plant & Tools Hire Fitter at Boels Rental in Preston, you will service, maintain and repair light and medium machinery and plant equipment. After completing repair tasks, you will use electronic equipment to check and test that machinery so it is certified safe and fit to be hired out to customers. You may work on engines, transmission systems, hydraulics, electronics, pneumatic systems, plant chassis/frames—including tracks, wheels and booms—as well as generators, compressors, concrete mixers, compacting machines (road rollers/plates), powered hand tools and disc cutters. You will conduct safety inspections and checks, keeping comprehensive records, and you will work Monday to Friday from 0730 to 1700. This is a 3‑month fixed‑term position covering long‑term sickness absence.

Profile:

  • High level of mechanical, diagnostic and fault‑finding skills, and the ability to work quickly and effectively to minimise delays on site.
  • Independent worker with strong decision‑making and great knowledge of plant equipment and small tools, proactive and able to “crack‑on” and finish the job.
  • Proven experience repairing plant equipment and small tools, ideally from a competitor or with in‑depth plant machinery knowledge.
  • Full UK driving licence.
  • Valid proof of right to work in the UK (Boels does not arrange visas or sponsorship).
