THE ROLE
Boeing Global Services – Commercial Modifications Europe Team seeks a multi‑skilled Design and/or Certification Engineer (Cabin Interiors) to develop, integrate and document interior payload system requirements, establish system design of large aircraft modifications, and demonstrate compliance with regulatory requirements, customer requirements and procedures defined in the company’s Design Organisation Handbook (DOH).
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Report to the Interiors Engineering Manager and collaborate with the global engineering team across multiple time zones to identify requirements and solutions for active and upcoming projects.
- Develop engineering design solutions using CAD for modifications to aircraft cabin systems, including cabin layout, passenger service units (PSU), emergency equipment, galleys, monuments, lavatories, environmental systems, paint schemes, overhead flight crew rest (OFCR) and overhead crew rest station (OCRS).
- Produce substantiation documents such as flammability documentation, design reports (egress, direct view), ground test plans and reports, cabin walk‑through plans and reports, and system safety analysis for interior components and systems.
- Compile engineering accomplishment documentation and instructions for continued airworthiness, including service bulletins and aircraft and component manual supplements.
- Attend meetings, represent Boeing on aircraft surveys and on‑site installation support at UK and overseas locations.
- Support statement of work and bids for new customer requests.
- Work closely with customers, vendors, MROs, regulatory agencies and internal teams to deliver engineering solutions that exceed customer expectations on time and within budget.
- Undertake design projects from simple changes to complex supplemental type certificates (STCs).
- Participate in multiple instructor‑led training courses for hard and soft skills improvement.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelor’s Degree in an engineering discipline.
SKILLS & EXPERIENCE
- Current or recent experience within the aerospace industry, specifically with an EASA Part 21J Design Organisation (or equivalent) is preferred.
- Experience with 3DX, CATIA V5, and/or AutoCAD industrial software.
- Knowledge of aircraft interior reconfiguration programmes.
- Working knowledge of sheet metal forming, fabrication, machining.
- Working knowledge of aircraft materials, fastener selection, hole size types, sealants & finishing.
- Demonstrated knowledge of EASA regulatory and airworthiness requirements including ETSO, CS‑25, CFR Part 25 and Part 21J design organisations.
- High attention to detail and professional integrity.
- Ability to manage multiple programmes with varying levels of requirements efficiently and effectively.
- Ability to prioritise workloads and adapt to changing situations and demands.
