Introduction
Boeing Defence United Kingdom (BDUK), through its Aircraft Support Programme, provides sustainment and delegated design support services to multiple rotary and fixed wing aircraft including AH-64E, CH-47, C-17, P8-A and E-7. Boeing employs over 2,000 people across the UK at numerous sites, and the company is experiencing solid organic growth. We are looking for an experienced Avionic/Electrical Field Service Representative to join the BDUK E-7 MK1 Wedgetail Airborne Early Warning and Control (AEW&C) Sustaining Engineering team. This role will be located at RAF Lossiemouth, in support of the UK’s fleet of E-7 Wedgetail AEW&C aircraft.
Role and Responsibilities
- Act as the primary point of contact for internal Boeing teams, external customers and suppliers for technical advice within approved technical data sets, mentoring, technical queries, fault investigations and repairs across avionic and AC/DC electrical systems.
- Lead maintenance activities in accordance with MoD UK E-7 Mk1 approved data sets, with access to Boeing released technical information and reach-back support to the platform design organisation.
- Conduct research on technical, operational and quality issues using analytics to assist with investigations and evaluate user and supplier reported discrepancies unresolved by the customer.
- Coordinate between Military and Approved Maintenance Organisations, Continuing Airworthiness Management Organisation, Engineering Authority, Design Organisation, Original Equipment Manufacturers and BDUK functions.
- Provide technical support to company products, perform troubleshooting procedures for multiple systems, and resolve maintenance and operational issues.
- Maintain in-depth working knowledge of defence regulations; comply with regulatory articles, defence standards, company policies, processes and procedures to stay regulatory compliant.
- Apply knowledge of technical publications to resolve customer queries (e.g., UK Interactive Electronic Technical Manuals, Repair Manuals, Technical Manuals, Digital Air Publications and drawing sets).
- Interpret modifications, service bulletins, service/part notices and authority-generated special technical instructions and advise on applicability.
- Analyse and maintain technical data to resolve problems for aircraft and component systems to support safe and efficient operation.
- Communicate effectively, mentor others, build professional relationships, and promote Boeing core values; support business improvements such as Cost Reduction Initiatives and Continuous Improvement.
Experience, Skills and Qualifications
- Significant Boeing military and/or commercial fixed-wing experience and knowledge in aircraft maintenance procedures, engineering drawings, standards and specifications to support the sustainment of E-7 MK1 across all aircraft, avionic and electrical systems. A high-level systems understanding of Mechanical/propulsion aspects is desirable.
- Extensive knowledge of repair, maintenance and retrofit processes and practices.
- Extensive and specialised knowledge of UK MoD military aircraft maintenance processes, policies, organisation, capabilities and constraints; knowledge of MoD projects is advantageous.
- Knowledge of Manual of Maintenance and Airworthiness Processes (MAM-P), related regulatory publications and Defence Standards pertaining to maintenance and aircraft modifications.
- Ability to analyse and interpret product data (engineering drawings, part lists, supplier data, wiring diagrams and schematics).
- Ability to research and apply engineering principles to resolve technical, operational and quality issues.
- Strong customer focus with effective communication with stakeholders to resolve problems.
- Collaborative team player with the ability to lead, delegate and ensure performance of assigned responsibilities.
- Understanding of financial performance metrics with ability to apply cost and schedule variance analysis.
- Experience with UK MoD Resolve and GOLDesp is desirable.
- Engineering degree with professional registration is desired but not essential; significant related certificated work experience may be considered in lieu, supported by defence or civil indentured apprenticeship or equivalent.
