We are seeking an experienced C-17 Field Operations Technical Engineer, Maintenance Specialist to join the on-site C-17 Field Operations Engineering and Technical Support (FETS) team supporting the Royal Air Force at RAF Brize Norton. This role is intended for an experienced C-17 maintainer/operator who can apply hands-on knowledge to solve operational problems, support aircraft availability, and provide practical maintenance and recovery guidance in an operational environment.

Responsibilities:

  • Lead resolution of in-service C-17 maintenance and operational issues using practical, experience-based solutions in close coordination with RAF customers and Boeing teams.
  • Provide authoritative troubleshooting and repair guidance to maintainers, recommending safe, timely courses of action to preserve mission readiness.
  • Interpret and apply technical documentation (Technical Orders, maintenance manuals, drawings, wiring diagrams and schematics) to support correct maintenance and repair actions.
  • Deliver on-the-job training and in-field mentorship, demonstrating system theory, maintenance procedures, servicing and troubleshooting techniques.
  • Support spares provisioning and support equipment recommendations to sustain operations.
  • Document field activities and outcomes: prepare technical reports, publication change requests, and continuous improvement inputs.
  • Provide operational support and advice to other C-17 operators worldwide as required.

Required Education / Experience:

  • Extensive, practical C-17 platform experience (prior C-17 maintainer/technician or operator strongly preferred).
  • Proven track record troubleshooting integrated aircraft systems in an operational environment using Technical Orders, historical repair data and system schematics.
  • Strong working knowledge of airframe maintenance practices, structures, and hydro-mechanical (hydraulic/actuation) systems.
  • Familiarity with aircraft support equipment, ground handling and maintenance tooling.
  • Demonstrable ability to work under time pressure in a 24/7 operational environment; must be able to respond on-call when required.
  • Eligible for UK Security Clearance.

Desirable Skills:

  • Broad operational knowledge of aircraft mechanical, electrical, environmental, propulsion, mission and avionics interfaces.
  • Experience interacting with engineering teams to implement repairs, modifications and publication changes.
  • Experience with product review and materials processes (MRA/MRB/UPR) is beneficial.
  • Strong technical writing and reporting skills.
