The Equipment Reliability function at Boeing Sheffield, a Boeing Fabrication site that is part of Boeing Commercial Airplanes (BCA), is looking to hire an experienced Equipment Maintenance Specialist. As an Equipment Maintenance Specialist (Night Shift), you will play a crucial role in ensuring the machines are ready for production. You will work as part of a team that is responsible for maintaining and repairing our high‑tech CNC machines and various other production and quality assets.

Responsibilities

  • Preventative maintenance program ownership and execution: develop, implement, monitor and optimise planned preventative maintenance (PM) programmes and condition‑based inspection schedules for CNC machines and ancillary production equipment, and perform hands‑on PM tasks, routine inspections and corrective maintenance to keep equipment production‑ready.
  • Complex troubleshooting and repairs: perform advanced diagnosis of mechanical, hydraulic, pneumatic and electrical faults and lead complex troubleshooting, disassembly, rebuild, modification and testing to restore equipment to production‑ready condition.
  • Machine alignments & commissioning: install, align, calibrate, commission and upgrade new or modified equipment; validate performance and ensure compliance with safety and operational standards.
  • Root cause & corrective actions: lead root cause investigations for recurring or high‑impact failures; define, implement and verify corrective and preventive actions and document findings to prevent recurrence.
  • Spares strategy & inventory control: manage critical spares and inventory, including stock monitoring, replenishment and record‑keeping.
  • Leadership & mentoring: provide technical leadership and structured training to maintenance teams and mentor less experienced technicians, guiding repair escalation decisions.
  • Cross‑functional coordination: coordinate complex repair activities and improvement projects with production, engineering, quality, suppliers and external service providers; act as a technical point of contact for significant equipment issues.
  • Reliability & continuous improvement: lead or champion reliability, capability and continuous improvement projects; quantify benefits, document outcomes and implement sustainable improvements.

Qualifications

  • Multi‑skilled experience with strong electrical bias and advanced fault‑finding capability across mechanical, hydraulic and pneumatic systems.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, Teams).
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills to effectively communicate with all levels.
  • Demonstrated ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, schematics and PLC/HMI documentation.
  • Minimum of 7+ years post‑apprenticeship experience working in a maintenance role on CNC machines in a production environment.
  • HNC/HND or Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or equivalent or Level 3 apprenticeship in Electrical, Mechanical or Electronic Engineering.
  • Significant experience with FANUC and/or Siemens operating systems.
  • Experience in fault‑finding/programming PLCs and HMIs.
  • IOSH Managing Safely certification.
  • Experience working in an AS9100 aerospace workplace.
  • Experience coordinating with suppliers and engineering teams on equipment upgrades and modifications.
