We are looking for Fabrication specialists and CNC Machinists, reporting into the Operations Manager, to join one of our Shift teams.
Responsibilities
- Set‑up / changeover and operate a range of Mill‑turn/ Twin Turret, Grinding or Sliding head machines and machining centres by installing and adjusting work holding, tooling and tool wear offsets.
- Efficiently and productively load and safely operate a range of CNC machines ensuring that down time is minimised.
- Able to run multiple machines / set‑ups (multi‑task).
- Recognise, deploy, and properly use inserts, work holding and tooling.
- Efficiently identify production process tool wear and timely adjust, replace worn, broken or damaged cutting tools.
- Verify programmes and settings using a range of measuring / inspection equipment and apply appropriate adjustments to ensure component quality is maintained.
- Provide timely feedback to the Line Manager on issues and any recommendations for process and/or quality improvement.
- Routinely electronically register and record all process operations on all machine tools being used and maintain results daily.
- Contribute to continuous improvement activities within the machining section.
- Ensure that daily / weekly / monthly maintenance tasks are carried out as required.
- Maintain a high level of housekeeping.
- Adhere to company procedure at all times.
- Support with any other ad‑hoc tasks where required.
- Carry out any other reasonable tasks as requested from time to time to support the business across production areas.
- Take a responsible and proactive approach to health, safety and environmental risks in relation to your own role and control or report them appropriately.
- Train and mentor other machinists / apprentices on site.
Qualifications
- Skilled engineer with experience of setting and operating CNC machines.
- Good level of numeracy and literacy.
- Good level of IT skills.
- Communicates honestly, professionally and respectfully with others and demonstrates effective listening skills.
- Understands and can perform work‑shift and tool wear compensation / offsets.
- Able to read and interpret engineering drawings.
- Ability to perform basic mathematical computations (apply concepts such as trigonometry, fractions, percentages, ratios and proportions to practical situations).
- Perform daily and regular cleaning and light maintenance tasks on machinery.
Preferred Qualifications
- Used to working to tight tolerances in a wide range of materials.
- A strong working knowledge of cutting tool setting and applications and competent with the use of complex fixtures.
- Able to troubleshoot machining processes and work under own initiative.
- Able to train and mentor others.
- Experience of working in a dynamic sub‑contract machining environment.
- FLT license desirable.
- Ability to reduce setup time and machining through process improvements.
- Experience of Aerospace machining and AS9100 requirements is desirable; other highly regulated industries will also be considered (medical, nuclear, automotive etc).
- Either previous experience as a machinist with experience of CNC machines or a minimum HNC qualified machinist.
