We are looking for a highly experienced and detail-oriented Senior Network Designer to join the team in Bristol, UK. The role requires extensive expertise in Wide Area Networks (WAN), routing, and complete LAN switching (L2 & L3), with a strong understanding of advanced networking protocols. Proficiency in technologies such as BGP, OSPF, MPLS, QoS, SD-WAN, encryption standards, and related security practices is essential. The position is hybrid, requiring some onsite work at a listed location. Candidates should have a proven track record of managing large-scale, complex network infrastructures and the ability to design, implement, and troubleshoot these systems effectively.
Responsibilities
- Design and implement scalable, high-performance WAN and LAN solutions
- Architect network systems for large, complex infrastructures with focus on reliability and security
- Plan, design, and deploy MPLS networks and systems incorporating advanced QoS strategies and traffic shaping
- Implement and manage routing and switching technologies, particularly OSPF, BGP, MPLS
- Troubleshoot and optimize WAN routing configurations across multiple locations
- Apply encryption standards for securing data traffic across wide area networks
- Work with internal teams to ensure network compliance with industry standards and regulations, including VPNs and SSL/TLS protocols
- Collaborate with IT security, stakeholders, and other teams to align network architecture with business requirements
- Develop and maintain comprehensive network documentation, topology diagrams, configuration guides, and capacity planning documents
- Provide training and knowledge transfer to junior designers
- Provide expert troubleshooting of network-related issues in LAN, WAN, and DMZ networks
- Assist in incident resolution, root cause analysis, and corrective actions to prevent recurrence
- Assist and help the team manage L2/L3 Break/Fix tickets to improve service restoration and metrics, including GSEP design change requests
Qualifications
Basic Qualifications (Required Skills/Experience):
- 10+ years of experience with LAN, WAN, and DMZ
- 10+ years with QoS, routing and switching protocols
- 10+ years designing and implementing large-scale network architectures with complex routing and switching
- 5+ years in network security and experience implementing/enforcing encryption standards (IPSec, SSL, GETVPN)
- 5+ years with network monitoring/diagnostic tools (Wireshark, SolarWinds, NetFlow)
- 5+ years of incident management experience
Preferred Qualifications (Desired Skills/Experience):
- CCNA, CCNP, CCIE or equivalent certifications
- Experience with network automation tools and scripting languages (Python, Ansible)
- Strong problem-solving and cross-functional collaboration skills
