As a Veterinary Business Partner within the Pet team, the role is responsible for developing and managing a portfolio of veterinary accounts to deliver sustainable business growth for Boehringer Ingelheim Animal Health. Success in the role requires the ability to build strategic partnerships with veterinary practices and groups, engage key stakeholders, and drive long-term value through commercially focused, customer-centric account management. The role combines veterinary expertise with commercial acumen and cross-functional collaboration to support brand growth and business objectives. This is a field-based role with regular travel across the UK.
Tasks & Responsibilities
- Manage a defined portfolio of veterinary accounts and deliver sustainable commercial growth through strategic account management and partnership development.
- Develop, implement and maintain account plans aligned to sales objectives, brand strategy and customer needs.
- Monitor, review and evaluate account performance against agreed commercial objectives and identify opportunities for further growth.
- Build and maintain trusted relationships with veterinary practice owners, directors, clinical leads, decision-makers and other key stakeholders.
- Identify and map key stakeholders within assigned accounts to strengthen customer engagement and support long-term partnership development.
- Engage with practice leadership teams, clinical boards, governance forums and relevant industry stakeholders to support business objectives.
- Secure and retain appropriate brand access within assigned accounts through compliant, value-based engagement.
- Identify opportunities to expand portfolio adoption in line with customer needs and account strategies.
- Collaborate with Practice Partnership Managers, Territory Managers, Brand Technical Advisers, Technical Services Vets and Marketing teams to deliver coordinated customer-focused solutions.
- Provide technical and commercial support on priority initiatives and complex stakeholder engagements where appropriate.
- Coordinate internal resources to maximise customer value and support successful execution of account and brand strategies.
- Maintain a strong understanding of the animal health market, disease areas, clinical developments and industry trends.
- Gather and share customer, market and industry insights to support business planning and strategic decision-making.
- Ensure all activities are conducted in accordance with the NOAH Code of Practice, VMD regulations and Boehringer Ingelheim policies and procedures.
Compliance & Governance
- Maintain a strong working knowledge of relevant regulatory frameworks, industry codes and governance requirements.
- Operate in line with BI values, ethical standards and compliance requirements, ensuring appropriate escalation of clinical or technical discussions when required.
- Complete all mandatory compliance and governance training within required timelines.
- Promote a culture of compliance, transparency, continuous improvement and ethical working practices.
Requirements
- Education: Qualified Veterinary Surgeon eligible to practice in the UK (RCVS registered or eligible for registration).
Skills & Experience
- Strong account management and strategic planning skills with the ability to deliver sustainable commercial outcomes across complex veterinary accounts.
- Proven commercial acumen and understanding of value-based selling and long-term partnership models within a regulated environment.
- Ability to engage credibly with senior clinical and business stakeholders through veterinary expertise and industry knowledge.
- Strong stakeholder management, influencing and relationship-building capabilities.
- Excellent consultative communication skills, including advanced questioning, listening and customer engagement techniques.
- Experience working effectively across Sales, Marketing and Veterinary functions to achieve shared business objectives.
- Sound understanding of governance, regulatory requirements and compliance standards within the Animal Health sector.
- Strong analytical, organisational and prioritisation skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities autonomously.
- Ability to interpret clinical, commercial and market insights and apply them effectively to customer discussions and account strategies.
- Commitment to maintaining current knowledge of industry, clinical, regulatory and market developments.
- Ability to work independently within a national field-based role and manage a diverse portfolio of accounts.
- Full UK driving licence and willingness to travel nationally.
