The Outcomes Research Lead will guide the strategic planning and delivery of outcomes research across the Prescription Medicine portfolio. This role leads a team of Outcomes Research professionals to generate rigorous real-world evidence (RWE), shape payer value propositions, and support HTA submissions. Through scientific leadership, collaboration, and innovation, the Outcomes Research Lead enables evidence‑based decision-making and helps improve patient access across the UK and Ireland. The Outcomes Research Lead operates as a player‑coach, balancing hands‑on outcomes research delivery anchored within prioritised therapeutic areas/assets with overarching leadership responsibility for portfolio‑level strategy, standards, and value demonstration.
Tasks & Responsibilities
- Leadership
- Partner with the Head of HEOR to develop and implement outcomes research strategies aligned to UKIE market access priorities and integrated evidence plans.
- Co-chair the Integrated Evidence Committee with the Head of the RWE CoE to ensure evidence priorities match brand and portfolio needs.
- Line manage, mentor, and develop the Outcomes Research team, ensuring high performance and consistent capability growth.
- Lead internal development activities, training, and knowledge sharing on RWE, Market Access, HE, and HTA.
- Ensure the OR function is fully staffed, motivated, and equipped to deliver.
- Partner with the Head of HEOR to define and uphold standards for HEOR, HTA excellence, and executional quality.
- Oversee and approve key OR deliverables including study concepts, RWE protocols, analyses, publications, and HTA evidence components.
- Ensure timely delivery of scientifically robust protocols, analyses, reports, and manuscripts.
- Maintain high standards of methodological rigour and compliance across all OR activities.
- Work closely with the Market Access Leadership Team, RWE CoE, and global teams to deliver cohesive evidence strategies.
- Provide strategic input to UK/Ireland Integrated Asset Evidence Plans and patient access strategies.
- Ensure planning and delivery of RWE/OR activities across the portfolio from early pipeline to loss of exclusivity.
- Deliver timely, fit‑for‑purpose evidence for launches, HTA submissions, and payer engagement.
- Build strong relationships with HTA bodies, payers, regulators, academics, and other external stakeholders to validate approaches and anticipate evidence needs.
- Represent the organisation in external working groups and industry forums, contributing to scientific and market access leadership.
- Stay current on evolving RWE methodologies, including AI applications, and the changing HTA landscape.
- Champion innovative uses of real-world data to support patient access solutions.
- Ensure full compliance with ABPI and IPHA Codes of Practice and internal SOPs.
- Ensure the OR team maintains compliance across all activities.
- Degree in Mathematics, Statistics, Health Economics, Epidemiology, or related field.
- Postgraduate qualification (MSc/PhD) in Epidemiology or related discipline (strongly preferred).
- In-depth knowledge of epidemiological methods and medical statistics.
- Experience managing and analysing large epidemiological datasets.
- Proven track record in designing, delivering, and publishing epidemiological studies.
- Working knowledge of statistical methods applied to health economics.
- Strong understanding of real-world data sources (e.g., CPRD) and UK healthcare system structure.
- Demonstrable experience within Pharmaceutical Market Access.
- Expert-level knowledge of Outcomes Research and HTA requirements (e.g., NICE, SMC, NCPE).
- Strong strategic awareness and judgment.
- Excellent analytical skills and problem-solving capability.
- Ability to influence diverse internal and external decision makers.
- High market access/commercial acumen.
- Strong interpersonal skills, credibility, negotiation ability, and customer/or stakeholder orientation.
