Site Engineer – Coventry

We are looking to recruit an Engineer to achieve better maintainability, reliability, and availability of infrastructure, buildings and equipment whilst complying with legal requirements.

Responsibilities

  • Flexibility
  • Work across different sites and roles to acquire knowledge and training, support holiday and sickness cover, reactive maintenance, projects and planned maintenance.
  • React when resources are unavailable to ensure equipment is available and maintained correctly, including health and safety issues outside of normal hours.
  • React if there is a problem during breaks and lunch (re-schedule break/lunch).
  • Stay after normal hours if contractors are on site or if there is a problem.
  • Reporting & Communication
  • Work as a valued member of the site management team.
  • Communicate clearly and professionally with all stakeholders.
  • Report all breakdowns to the UK Engineer Manager every morning.
  • Provide a monthly written report to the Deputy Engineering Manager on the first working day of the month, including:
  • All unplanned maintenance times/issues
  • Health and safety issues/incidents
  • Monthly maintenance spends
  • Ongoing project work at site
  • Communicate with the Site Management team daily about all issues and projects.
  • Coordinate with the UK Engineering Manager on problems that cannot be resolved in one day.
  • Attend Site management meetings when required and participate in the annual management review, compiling and presenting the annual engineering report.
  • Computerised Maintenance Management System
  • Ensure site compliance with Bodycote CMMS.
  • Carry out all planned & predictive maintenance tasks on time & accurately.
  • Log all non-conformances, faults & errors into the CMMS.
  • Training and Competency
  • Identify training needs and respond well to mentoring.
  • Review
  • Review CMMS records monthly.
  • Review & control all engineering permit systems for the site monthly.
  • Health and safety
  • Comply with Bodycote Health & Safety procedures.
  • Ensure statutory requirements & inspections are carried out; log remedial actions in the CMMS.
  • Report any violations of health & safety procedures or permit systems.
  • Perform risk assessments, safe systems of work and method statements as required.
  • Follow site permit systems and ensure others do so.
  • Report opportunities for improvement, near misses and incidents.
  • Holidays and Cover
  • Ensure holidays are approved by the UK Engineering Manager.
  • Maintain engineering cover on site at all times, including holidays and periods of absence where practicable.
  • Attend call outs as part of a rota with flexibility depending on manpower, sickness and holidays.
  • Purchasing, Critical Spare and Stock Control
  • Maintain critical spares and arrange repairs promptly with regard to Site Manager discretion.
  • Maintain stock levels on site; critical spares must be kept and issues reported to the UK Engineering Manager.
  • Review and control engineering budgets; ensure purchase orders are in place before ordering.
  • Maintain accurate stock control on the CMMS.
  • Miscellaneous
  • This is a hands-on role involving physical maintenance of equipment.
  • Ensure contractors have up-to-date Public & Personal Liability insurance, use required PPE, follow Bodycote health & safety procedures, and have method statements and risk assessments.
  • Ensure expenses for yourself and staff are authorised by the UK Engineering Manager or above.
  • Project manage projects, sometimes on different sites; conduct disciplinary investigations at other sites as required.
  • Qualifications, experience and skills
  • Electrical qualification is essential, with mechanical aptitude.
  • Flexibility to working hours to react to breakdowns/contractor supervision, etc.
  • City & Guilds/BTEC Qualification in Engineering or similar.
  • Self-motivated, driven, positive attitude and willingness to learn.
  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Good computer skills and ability to use common software packages.
  • Tidy, organized, with good problem-solving abilities and manual dexterity.
  • Trustworthy and honest; able to work well with others; interest in repairing mechanical and electrical equipment.
  • Experience in a technical field is advantageous.
