At Body & Soul, we create luxury intimate portrait experiences for everyday women in East London – most of whom have never done a shoot before. Your job is to design camera‑ready hair & makeup that feels like the best version of her, while holding a calm, safe space from the moment she walks in and setting her up for a life‑changing shoot. We’ve already guided over 1,900 women through this experience. For many, it’s been the most important, confidence‑shifting thing they did that year. From going for (and getting) dream jobs… leaving unfulfilling relationships… to finally travelling the world solo… all after seeing themselves through new eyes. You’re the first person she sits with. How you hold space, and paint her face, can help change her whole story about herself before she ever steps in front of the camera. This is the power of Intimate Portraiture.
As our in‑studio Hair & Makeup Artist, you’ll be a direct source of that change every single day – not just "doing glam" but helping women see themselves as powerful, worthy and beautiful in real life and on camera. If you want to be part of a tight in‑studio team and push your styling craft to a world‑class standard, keep reading. If you’re looking for a side‑gig where you can dabble, this won’t be the right home.
Role at a glance
- Schedule: 5 days per week including regular weekends
- Typical day: 3 full styling guests per day + on‑set assistance for full 2‑hour sessions + simple BTS content, on your feet most of the day
- Compensation: £29,000–£35,000 base in year one (depending on experience and performance)
- Start band: Typically £29,000–£31,000 after your 2‑day paid trial, with clear progression into the low/mid‑30s for strong performance, plus a monthly performance bonus once you’re fully ramped
- Reports to: Studio Manager
Your Mission
Design and deliver camera‑ready hair & makeup that feels like the best version of her, then stay on set to support her and the photographer for the entire shoot – protecting timing, vibe and standards every time.
What You Will Do
- Create high‑quality, camera‑ready hair & makeup that enhances each woman’s natural beauty and fits the Body & Soul aesthetic
- Run to hard timings: start every look on time, finish on time, and support 2‑hour sessions that run to the minute
- Stay on set and fully engaged for the entire shoot: managing flyaways, shine, wardrobe tweaks, subtle posing adjustments and overall vibe so the guest feels supported throughout
- Capture and upload simple behind‑the‑scenes content during the day (on phone) that showcases our transformation process without disrupting guests or timing
- Welcome guests with warmth and professionalism, helping them feel safe, seen and celebrated
- Maintain an immaculate, calm, organised station and follow strict hygiene and sanitation standards
- Learn and embody our signature look library and guest experience standards
- Collaborate closely with photographers and Guest Experience to keep the whole studio day running smoothly
Within your first 90 days, you’ll ramp from supervised support into independently running full styling days and on‑set assistance, while hitting our timing, guest‑score and BTS standards.
How We’ll Know You’re Winning
- 95%+ of your guests are styled and handed over to photographers on time
- You maintain a rolling 4.8+/5 average guest score for hair & makeup, with guests mentioning you by name
- BTS content is captured and uploaded for almost every eligible session without delaying guests or overrunning
- Your station is spotless and fully stocked at every spot‑check
- You can independently run full styling days on our busiest days while protecting guest experience and team wellbeing
This Role Is For You If…
- You love being busy, moving and on your feet all day
- You get genuine satisfaction from hitting tight timings and following checklists
- You care deeply about women feeling powerful and beautiful in their own skin
- You’re in a season of life where you want to go all‑in on your craft, even if that means long, intense days rather than "perfect balance"
- You like clear standards, honest feedback and being held to numbers on timing, quality and guest scores
- You thrive in a high‑standard, direct, team‑first environment
This Role Is Not For You If…
- You prefer a desk, long breaks, or a slow, quiet, go‑with‑the‑flow pace over tight schedules and fixed rotas
- You currently need strict 9–5 hours and guaranteed weekends off
- You’re uncomfortable holding space for women in vulnerable, emotional moments
- Capturing beautiful, Instagram‑worthy video of our guests having the time of their lives – while you’re on set helping the photographer throughout the shoot – doesn’t excite you
Requirements
- Must have Professional hair & makeup experience with portfolio (soft glam / natural focus a must)
- Comfortable styling and supporting 3 guests per day on your feet most of the time
- Strong hygiene standards and kit / product care
- Confident capturing simple BTS content on a phone
- Weekend availability (this role includes regular weekend shifts)
Training, Growth And Perks
- 2‑day paid trial: In‑studio intensive on The Body & Soul Way plus supervised trial sessions so both sides can see if it’s a fit (paid at a flat day rate).
- Structured 90‑day ramp: Clear timing, guest‑score and BTS milestones, plus weekly coaching from your Studio Manager.
- Clear progression: A defined HMUA ladder with pay rises tied to KPIs, behaviour and craft level – not politics or tenure.
- Performance bonus: Monthly bonus on top of base once fully ramped, based on your timing, guest scores and BTS coverage.
- Perks: Team holidays and getaways, staff artwork perks, plus a high‑standard in‑studio team that genuinely wants you to win.
Our guests are women, often shooting nude or semi‑nude, and you’ll be part of an all‑female studio floor team for their comfort and safety.
