Join us at an exciting time for pastoral care at Bodmin College. At Bodmin College, our mission is "to provide a great quality of education so that every child can live a life full of choice and boundless opportunities." Bodmin College is on a transformational journey to provide an ambitious and inclusive education for all learners, and there has never been a more exciting time to join us. From September 2026, we are launching a new pastoral structure that places student support, attendance, inclusion and belonging at the heart of everything we do. Each year group will be led by a dedicated Head of Year and supported by a Year Manager, creating a strong pastoral partnership focused on ensuring every child can thrive.
We are seeking an exceptional Year Manager to join our pastoral team and play a key role in shaping this exciting next chapter.
What we have achieved in the last 12 months:
- Improved A8 outcomes to be in line with national standards, moving from 27th to 11th in Cornwall.
- Become a top 10 school nationally for improvement in English A8.
- Reduced fixed-term suspensions by 68%.
- Improved attendance by 3.61%.
- Been recognised as a high-performing school amongst similar schools nationally.
What is a Year Manager?
The Year Manager is a non-teaching pastoral role that sits at the heart of student support. Each Year Manager is assigned to a year group and works closely with a Head of Year to provide operational and pastoral leadership for students. Together, they ensure students attend regularly, feel a strong sense of belonging, receive the support they need and are able to access every opportunity available to them. The Year Manager is often the first point of contact for students and families, building strong relationships and working proactively to identify and remove barriers to success. This role is ideally suited to someone who is highly organised, resilient, compassionate and passionate about improving outcomes for young people.
What will you do?
- Be a visible and trusted adult for students, building positive relationships and supporting them to overcome barriers to success.
- Work closely with the Head of Year to implement year group priorities and deliver targeted pastoral support.
- Champion excellent attendance by monitoring attendance patterns, identifying concerns early and working proactively with students and families to secure improvements.
- Maintain regular contact with parents and carers, developing strong partnerships that support students both in and out of school.
- Identify students who may require additional support and coordinate timely interventions to improve attendance, engagement, behaviour, wellbeing and outcomes.
- Monitor the impact of interventions and maintain accurate records to ensure support is effective and responsive to need.
- Promote high standards of behaviour and help create a calm, positive and purposeful learning environment.
- Support students through key transition points, including joining the school, moving between year groups and returning following periods of absence.
- Help ensure every student feels seen, valued and that they belong within the Bodmin College community.
- Work closely with safeguarding, SEND, attendance and behaviour colleagues to ensure students receive coordinated and effective support.
- Liaise with external agencies and services where appropriate to help remove barriers to learning.
- Maintain a highly visible presence around the school during social times, supporting students and reinforcing positive relationships.
- Contribute to year group events, assemblies, rewards systems and initiatives that promote student engagement, achievement and belonging.
- Play an active role within a wider pastoral team consisting of Heads of Year, Year Managers and specialist inclusion staff, recognising that students achieve their best when professionals work together around their needs.
