THIS VACANCY IS FOR INTERNAL APPLICANTS ONLY THIS POST COULD BE CONSIDERED AS A SECONDMENT OPPORTUNITY About the role The John Johnson Collection of Printed Ephemera, part of the Rare Books Section within Special Collections, is one of the largest collections of printed ephemera in the world and offers a distinctive view of British history. You will take the lead in shaping a new digital resource that will transform discovery of this important collection, working with colleagues across departments to convert a large and complex dataset held in multiple formats into a sustainable, structured TEI dataset. You will coordinate day-to-day project delivery, establish workflows for creating TEI metadata, organise and prioritise data-conversion and cataloguing tasks, and ensure milestones and deliverables are met. You will collate, structure and enhance collection data for conversion, manage quality assurance against agreed standards, contribute to the development of a new online discovery environment, and act as a key point of contact for project stakeholders. You will also apply specialist subject knowledge to ensure that the resulting metadata reflects the intellectual, historical and material significance of the collection, and share project findings and best practice with relevant scholarly communities. This is a full-time post, working 37.5 hours per week for 12 months. Part-time working over an equivalent longer period will also be considered, with a minimum commitment of 22.5 hours per week (0.6 FTE), normally at least three days per week. About You You will have a relevant degree and/or postgraduate qualification in a field such as history, book history, art history, digital humanities or library studies. You will have proven project management experience within a heritage environment and experience of professional cataloguing tools and descriptive standards in a library setting. You will bring expertise in historical and descriptive bibliography and/or specialist cataloguing of early, rare or distinctive collections, together with experience of coordinating complex datasets or digital editions. You will have excellent interpersonal and communication skills, strong analytical and problem-solving abilities, and the capacity to work independently while contributing effectively to a wider team. Knowledge of printed ephemera, relevant metadata systems, or experience contributing to digital resources in the history of the book would be advantageous.
