This Platform Technical Lead is responsible for evolving and maintaining the platform engineering capabilities, whilst supporting the engineering teams to deliver consistent and quality software. This role works closely with internal and external engineering teams to understand common challenges and turn them into clear platform improvements and priorities, with a particular focus on enabling teams through automation, standards and guidance.
Location: 2 days per week at our North Acton office, 3 days working from home.
Accountabilities- Own and develop the platform roadmap, ensuring it addresses engineering needs, objectives and architecture direction.
- Maintain a deep understanding of industry best practices, trends and approaches to deliver value from the engineering platform.
- Maintain an understanding of key third-party product roadmaps and their relevance to the platform domain.
- Support and enable domain-specific platform initiatives, ensuring they align with overall platform strategy, standards, and architectural direction.
- Engage regularly with engineering teams to understand challenges, blockers, and architectural constraints.
- Run discovery and innovation activities to explore improvements to engineering and platform practices.
- Lead developer enablement through workshops, presentations, self-service tools, documentation, templates, and golden paths.
- Promote engineering standards and best practices, support cross-team alignment, and share learning across the technical community.
- Build and evolve a secure, scalable internal developer platform used across engineering teams.
- Own and evolve observability platforms that provide engineers with actionable insight into service health, enable early detection of issues, and support rapid diagnosis and resolution of incidents.
- Design and operate shared CI/CD pipelines and automation frameworks that reduce manual effort and risk.
- Own infrastructure-as-code templates and automated environment provisioning standards.
- Platform roadmap items delivered that directly support agreed engineering objectives or architectural priorities.
- Stakeholder engagement with platform initiatives, including self-service tooling, templates, and documentation.
- Ensuring the technical backlog is prioritised, up to date, and aligned to team and department objectives.
- Strong sense of ownership and accountability.
- Curious about and interested in AI Engineering and emerging capabilities.
- Skilled working with Datadog or similar monitoring systems.
- Strong experience with Infrastructure-as-Code, preferably Terraform.
- Strong platform and systems architecture experience.
- Expertise with AWS Cloud.
- Skilled in CI/CD Pipelines Cloud, including designing and operating shared pipelines, automation frameworks, and deployment strategies.
- Experience with cloud platform and cloud-native engineering.
- Observability and reliability expertise, including logging, metrics, tracing, alerting, and incident management.
- End-to-end SDLC experience with strong architectural design knowledge.
- Strong coding skills. Ideally experience in python or .NET.
- IT-related degree is preferred.
- Excellent communication skills, able to explain technical concepts to both technical and non-technical audiences.
- A passion for exploring modern technologies and driving innovation.
- Experience integrating third-party services.
- Developer platform and tooling experience, preferably with GitHub Copilot/AI Engineering.
- Knowledge evaluating and integrating third-party platforms.
- Experience with Quality and automated testing platforms.
