Locomotive / mechanical Engineer - required to join and support our skilled team of engineers at Boden Rail Engineering Ltd. The role will consist of engineering within the depot and in the field when required.
The role will include:
- Servicing locomotives
- willing to undertake safety critical work
- Re-blocking brakes
- Bogie refurbishments
- Power unit refurbishments
- Fault finding
- Hand washing locomotives
- Pressure washing
- forklift
- Topping up Oil, Sand and other consumables to locomotives
- Assisting with lifting and fitting of parts
General Depot duties:
- Supporting a clean environment within depot
- Stock management
- Assisting with in/outbound despatching of parts
Skills required:
Ideally you will have experience in heavy engineering and working in a locomotive depot environment or have good knowledge of general engineering, but full training will be given to the successful candidate. You must be required to undertake a railway PTS (Personal Track Safety) training and associated medical.
Education level as a minimum: NVQ level 3 in engineering
The role will involve climbing up locomotive steps, working in confined spaces and at times lifting heavy objects. Therefore, applicants must be physically able to perform the tasks within the job description.
The working hours are 40 hours a week with opportunity for overtime that includes weekends. The depot consists of covered and uncovered areas where you will be expected to work in all weather conditions as required.
Excellent communication skills are essential for this role as you will be working within a small team of engineers daily. You will be motivated, enthusiastic and keen to learn new skills in Heavy Locomotive engineering and servicing. The role mandates a full medical on appointment into the post and random Drugs and alcohol testing throughout employment.
