About the Role

We are seeking an experienced and professional Housing Disrepair Surveyor to undertake expert witness inspections and reporting across South West England. This is an excellent opportunity for a qualified surveyor looking to supplement existing consultancy work with a flexible volume of housing disrepair instructions. Assignments will typically involve property inspections, defect diagnosis, evidence gathering, and the preparation of clear, well-reasoned reports for legal proceedings.

Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct housing disrepair inspections at residential properties.
  • Assess issues including damp, mould, condensation, leaks, water ingress, ventilation defects, and general building disrepair.
  • Produce detailed expert witness reports.
  • Prepare schedules of defects and recommended remedial works.
  • Liaise professionally with solicitors, housing providers, landlords, and tenants.
  • Attend joint meetings and court hearings where required (occasional).

Requirements

  • Degree or equivalent qualification in Building Surveying or a related discipline.
  • Experience in housing disrepair investigations.
  • Strong knowledge of residential building pathology.
  • Excellent report-writing skills.
  • Full UK driving licence and willingness to travel throughout the South West.
  • Professional and impartial approach to evidence and reporting.

Desirable

  • MRICS, FRICS, MCIOB or equivalent professional membership.
  • Previous expert witness experience.
  • Familiarity with CPR Part 35 requirements.
  • Experience providing evidence in litigation matters.
