The Opportunity
A rare opportunity has arisen for an experienced Engineering Manager to lead the engineering operation at the newly refurbished Manchester Town Hall following its £550m restoration.
This flagship role will see you take ownership of one of the UK's most iconic Grade I listed buildings as it transitions from construction into live operation.
You'll lead the engineering function, oversee all hard services, manage multidisciplinary teams and specialist contractors, and ensure the building operates safely, efficiently and compliantly.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead the soft landing and technical handover into live operation.
- Manage all Hard FM services, including HV/LV, HVAC, BMS and fire & life safety systems.
- Lead and develop the onsite engineering team and specialist subcontractors.
- Ensure statutory compliance, building safety and engineering best practice.
- Oversee commissioning, technical documentation and asset information.
- Develop maintenance strategies and lifecycle plans.
- Act as the senior technical point of contact for the client and key stakeholders.
- Drive engineering performance and maintain contractual KPIs.
About You
- Proven experience managing engineering operations within large, complex buildings or critical environments.
- A strong background in Hard FM and building services engineering.
- Experience leading multidisciplinary engineering teams and subcontractors.
- Knowledge of commissioning, soft landings and major building handovers.
- Excellent understanding of statutory compliance and UK building safety legislation.
- Strong stakeholder management and communication skills.
Essential Qualifications
- 18th Edition BS7671
- Level 3 NVQ in Electrical Installation
- 2391 Testing & Inspection (or equivalent)
- Level 3 Fire Detection & Alarm qualification (5839 Part 1)
Heritage building experience or Chartered Engineer status would be advantageous but is not essential.
