With a track record of 50 years in the nuclear energy sector, Boccard is ideally placed to serve this new era of nuclear as a leading specialist in engineering, manufacturing, construction and maintenance across the energy industry. To support our continued growth, Boccard are looking for Semi skilled Operatives - Woodworkers to work at our Deeside location. Reporting to the Materials Manager, the role will deliver high-quality joinery and general handyman tasks within a busy manufacturing environment. This includes fabricating, assembling, and finishing bespoke wooden structures using hand and power tools, ensuring all work meets strict design specifications, quality standards, and health and safety requirements.

The role also supports manual handling and component packaging, working collaboratively with colleagues and other trades to achieve timely and accurate delivery of tasks. The ideal candidate for the role will have a strong background in joinery and carpentry, with proven experience in fabricating and assembling a wide range of wooden structures. They will be comfortable supporting manual handling and heavy lifting tasks related to component packaging and thrive in a busy, hands-on manufacturing environment.

We are looking for individuals with a willing and can-do, positive attitude, who thrive in a fast-paced, busy team. Applicants must be committed to carrying out work in line with all safety requirements and standards. Previous experience of working in a fabrication facility in a highly regulated, ideally nuclear industry would be advantageous.

Principal responsibilities:
  • Material and Equipment Management: Identify and prepare all required materials, tools, and equipment in advance to ensure efficient delivery of work.
  • Workmanship and Quality: Maintain high standards of craftsmanship, ensuring all joinery work meets design specifications and quality expectations.
  • Task Completion: Organise and prioritise work to complete tasks within agreed timescales, consistently achieving quality targets.
  • Health and Safety Compliance: Take full responsibility for personal and team safety on-site, following all health, safety, and environmental procedures.
  • Construction Accuracy: Execute all construction and joinery work accurately in accordance with technical drawings, plans, and specifications.
  • Multi-Trade Flexibility: Undertake a variety of tasks beyond joinery as required, demonstrating adaptability and a multi-trade approach.
  • Communication: Provide clear and timely updates on job progress to supervisors and team members.
  • Continuous Improvement: Support HSQE improvement initiatives, participate in reviews of work practices, and contribute suggestions to enhance efficiency, safety, and quality.
  • Promoting a Positive Culture: Support and contribute to a positive HSQE culture by offering suggestions for improvements and participating in reviews of work practices.
  • Safe Work Practices: Ensure that all work, including the use of hand tools, power tools, and machinery, is carried out safely and efficiently.
  • Housekeeping and Organisation: Maintain a clean, organised, and hazard-free work environment to support operational efficiency and safety.
  • Participation in Initiatives: Engage in HSQE improvement initiatives, training, and workshops to enhance personal and team safety, quality, and environmental awareness.
Qualifications and Experience:
  • Proven ability to fabricate and assemble bespoke crates, packing cases, and wooden structures to specification.
  • NVQ Level 2 or 3 in Carpentry & Joinery, or equivalent qualification.
  • Good understanding of construction and joinery techniques and materials.
  • Knowledge of Health, Safety, Quality, and Environmental (HSQE) procedures and safe working practices.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a multi-trade team.
  • Competent in the safe and effective use of hand tools, power tools, and workshop machinery.
  • Physically capable of undertaking manual handling and heavy lifting tasks.
  • Experience working within a steel fabrication or fast-paced manufacturing environment.
  • Strong attention to detail with a commitment to delivering consistent, high-quality workmanship.
  • Positive, reliable, and proactive can-do attitude.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and decision-making ability.
