In this role, you provide clear and confident advice to managers on employee relations and day‑to‑day management issues. You manage disciplinary, grievance and other ER matters, offering balanced guidance throughout each case. This position expects you to lead annual and in‑cycle HR processes, including inclusive recruitment, succession planning, talent reviews, compensation planning and IPF calibration. You coordinate organisational changes that support business needs — from restructures and outsourcing to relocation, job development opportunities and M&A activity. You ensure managers are upskilled to handle their own grievance, disciplinary, performance and wider management responsibilities, stepping in to manage the more complex cases. Furthermore, you support the HR Manager with near‑term and long‑term workforce planning, using metrics to spot opportunities to improve performance. You monitor absence trends, identify root causes and take the lead on managing complex long‑term sickness cases. Lastly, you are the person who brings clarity, calm judgement and inclusive behaviour to every interaction.

What Makes You Great

In this role, you apply strong knowledge of UK employment law and HR best practice to real situations. You work confidently in a unionised environment and build constructive relationships with key partners. This position expects you to advise managers on employee relations and people‑management issues with clarity and balance. Your role includes using HR policies, procedures and processes to guide fair and consistent decisions. You will lead recruitment, performance reviews, promotions and compensation planning with confidence. You communicate clearly and build strong relationships across every level of the organisation. Furthermore, you analyse information, spot patterns and solve problems when cases become complex. You collaborate closely with your HR colleagues to deliver joined‑up support. In this role, you manage organisational change activities and help leaders navigate transitions with confidence and care. You are comfortable using HR systems and Microsoft Office tools, especially Excel and PowerPoint. A CIPD qualification or HR degree is desirable and will support you in this role. Lastly, you are the person who role‑models integrity and inclusive behaviours every day.
