To deliver our English curriculum across Years 7-13, and to support the development of a rich and challenging curriculum. Alongside this, to contribute to the development of teaching and learning across the English team in alignment with the departmental and whole‑school curriculum vision. The successful candidate will be a model of professionalism, a dynamic team player and an outstanding practitioner in the classroom.

To demonstrate an ambitious vision for the department with high standards for quality and performance. To be accountable for leading and adapting the development of appropriate syllabuses, resources, schemes of work, marking policies, assessment and teaching and learning strategies in the department, in line with the BMA way. To be accountable for the data and outcomes in English at key performance indicators, especially at Year 11 and Year 13. To be accountable for the day‑to‑day management, control and operation of course provision with the department, including effective deployment of staff and resources. To be responsible for the training and development of the department in your subject and library, supporting with weekly line management and appraisal processes. To be responsible for the efficient and effective deployment of the Department's support staff where applicable in your subject.

To lead, manage and develop the subject/curriculum area in all its aspects of English in KS3, KS4 & KS5. To ensure an appropriately broad, balanced, relevant and differentiated curriculum for all scholars studying in the department, in accordance with the aims of the academy. To develop and enhance the teaching practice of others and nurture a culture where good practice is regularly shared. Model expert, evidence‑informed teaching in your subject area and share best practice within the department and across the wider school. Foster a love of reading and a passion for the written, spoken and expressive word.

Ali House and the English Department: Ali house is named after award winning novelist Monica Ali, who in 2024 received her CBE for services to Literature. The drive of this house is Curiosity and this trait spans over the disciplines of English and Religious Studies at Bobby Moore Academy, with scholars belonging to this house aspiring to change these fields as they leave their very own legacy in the world. Monica Ali has visited the school on a number of occasions and is always willing to engage with her scholars, supporting their aspirations and advocating for them at every step. Your role as Lead Teacher of English then goes way beyond this, as you are a key strategic figure in the successful development of our scholars being able to enjoy reading and speaking successfully and having a secure command of the English Language.

The English department is located in the heart of the school, with classrooms together on one floor and a spacious library. Joining the team would give you the opportunity to be part of an experienced and dedicated team of teachers and support staff who are passionate about reading, writing, oracy and development of scholars’ power to think creatively, challenge and be curious about the world and information around them. The English department has a variety of educational backgrounds and experiences which we utilise through our weekly co‑planning meetings and shared resourcing. Our curriculum delivers both GCSE and A‑level, but as part of an all‑through academy there is the opportunity to expand and have impact way beyond the standard examination year groups.

Who we are looking for: Qualified Teacher Status, with a good honours degree in a relevant subject evidence of ongoing professional development. Excellent classroom practitioner with demonstrable experience of raising standards and successful delivery of the English curriculum. Experience of helping scholars to overcome significant barriers to learning.
