We are seeking a passionate, experienced, and highly motivated Assistant Manager to join our team. Working closely with the Store Manager, you will be responsible for ensuring the smooth day-to-day operations of our coffee shop, driving team performance, and providing exceptional customer service. The ideal candidate is a hands-on leader with a love for coffee culture, excellent communication skills, and the ability to train staff and manage inventory effectively.

Key Responsibilities

  • Supervise Staff: Lead baristas and staff during shifts, ensuring high standards of customer service and product quality.
  • Training & Development: Train new hires on barista skills, coffee preparation, POS systems, and shop policies.
  • Motivate & Coach: Foster a positive work environment, providing ongoing feedback and coaching to team members.
  • Scheduling: Assist the manager in creating staff schedules and ensuring adequate coverage, particularly during peak hours.
  • Day-to-Day Operations: Manage daily opening/closing procedures and ensure the store is clean, well-presented, and fully operational.
  • Inventory Management: Monitor stock levels, place supplier orders, and conduct regular inventory counts to minimize waste.
  • Equipment Maintenance: Ensure coffee machines, grinders, and other equipment are maintained and serviced as needed.
  • Safety Compliance: Uphold all health, safety, and hygiene standards.
  • Customer Excellence: Build relationships with customers and resolve complaints or concerns promptly.
  • Driving Sales: Implement marketing initiatives, promote special offers, and drive sales targets.
  • Product Knowledge: Maintain expert knowledge of our coffee, tea, and food menu to make recommendations.
  • Cash Handling: Oversee cash management, till balancing, and daily bank deposits.
  • Financial Reporting: Assist with reporting on daily sales and KPIs, helping to manage labour costs and expenses.

Qualifications & Requirements

  • Experience: 2+ years of experience in a supervisory or management role within the hospitality industry (coffee shop/cafe preferred).
  • Barista Skills: Strong hands-on knowledge of espresso brewing, milk steaming, and latte art.
  • Leadership: Proven capability to lead, motivate, and mentor a diverse team.
  • Communication: Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Flexibility: Willingness to work flexible hours, including early mornings, weekends, and holidays.
  • Physical Strength: Capable of standing for long periods and lifting heavy items (e.g., milk crates, coffee bags).
  • Right to work in the UK.
