Board Intelligence is a technology and advisory firm on a mission to make boards more effective, and through them, build better businesses and benefit society. We have invested in applied AI since 2020, well ahead of the market, and that early conviction has paid off. Our AI-powered platform and smart board advisor give us a competitive advantage that is widening, not narrowing. We are now growing fast, with a proven commercial model spanning both mid-market and enterprise, and a product suite that has become a necessary addition in high-stakes board environments.
Our Mission: We unleash the potential of organisations through the science of board effectiveness, building better businesses and benefitting society.
The Role: Board Intelligence's software is used by boards and leadership teams at some of the most heavily regulated organisations in the world, including major financial services firms. We are setting up a new Platform Experience team to build the web applications and APIs that power the whole platform, rather than features for individual products or clients. This is a product engineering role, not a platform or infrastructure role.
Our stack spans Ruby, TypeScript (React), Python and Java, and we are a Claude Code shop, with access from your first day. Whilst we aren't fully remote, we are flexible on office presence and can consider hybrid approaches of 2-4 days per month onsite in London.
- Design, build and ship the web applications and APIs that underpin the Board Intelligence platform.
- Lead work on platform features, such as authentication and identity, ensuring we have products that meet the expectations of our enterprise clients.
- Work directly with clients' IT and technology teams to understand their requirements, ask the right questions and push back where needed.
- Build to the security and data protection standards that regulated financial services clients expect.
- Work across our stack, including Ruby, TypeScript (React), Python and Java.
- Share knowledge with colleagues and build depth in a critical part of the platform.
- Use AI tools such as Claude Code to move faster, while keeping engineering standards high.
Person Specification:
- Upper mid-level to senior professional software engineering experience.
- Professional experience with Ruby, alongside at least one other language: we want an engineer who is comfortable across languages, but has significant Ruby experience.
- Strong engineering foundations that carry across languages and frameworks, including system design, testing and code quality.
- Experience building and maintaining web applications and APIs in production.
- Confidence working with clients' technical teams: asking good questions and pushing back rather than saying yes to everything.
- Experience using AI coding tools in your day-to-day work, with the judgement to keep quality high.
- Fluent written and spoken English.
Nice to haves:
- Experience in a regulated enterprise environment, such as financial services, and an understanding of why enterprise clients ask for what they do.
- Experience building or integrating authentication systems, such as SSO, SAML, OpenID Connect, SCIM or passkeys.
- Experience with TypeScript and React, Python or Java.
- A strong interest in security and data protection.
What good looks like in this role:
- After three months: you know our core platform, our products and what our clients expect when handling sensitive data, and you have been contributing code from your first weeks.
- After six months: Remarkable quality & service — We take joy from delighting our clients and pride ourselves on ensuring every interaction is exceptional.
Benefits:
- Pension scheme
- Personal performance bonus
- 26 days holiday each calendar year
- Bupa health & dental cover
- Group life assurance
- EAP
- Cycle to work scheme
Diversity, equity and inclusion: Board Intelligence is committed to building a team that reflects the breadth of experience, background and perspective needed to do this work well. We welcome applications from candidates of all backgrounds and do not discriminate on the basis of age, disability, ethnicity, gender, religion, sexual orientation or any other protected characteristic.
We may use artificial intelligence (AI) tools to support parts of the hiring process, such as reviewing applications, analyzing resumes, or assessing responses and identifying potential inconsistencies or verification signals in application materials based on available information.
