Our Mission
We unleash the potential of organisations through the science of board effectiveness, building better businesses and benefiting society.
The Role
As Senior DevOps Engineer you will own the design, delivery, and continuous improvement of our cloud infrastructure across Google Cloud Platform and AWS. You will work across a genuinely varied brief: multi-cloud architecture, Kubernetes cluster management, cloud migration, CI/CD, and tackling the kind of legacy tech debt that accumulates in a fast-growing business. This is a hands‑on role with real scope to shape how we build and operate infrastructure at scale. You will work closely with engineering, product, and IT teams, and you will be expected to bring both technical depth and a strong point of view on what good looks like. You will also be someone who keeps a close eye on how AI is changing the DevOps landscape and brings that thinking into how we work.
Main Responsibilities
- Cloud infrastructure and architecture
- Architect and deploy robust, multi-cloud systems across GCP and AWS, ensuring scalability, reliability, and strong performance.
- Lead cloud migration projects, including on-premises to cloud transitions, hybrid solutions, and infrastructure automation across multiple sites and providers.
- Build infrastructure that scales with rapid business growth, including integrating and automating diverse tech stacks acquired through new market expansion.
- Manage Kubernetes clusters, optimising containerised workloads through provider-managed services and continuously improving efficiency and reliability.
- Engineering standards and practices
- Establish and evolve best practices for CI/CD, infrastructure as code using Terraform, and system performance monitoring.
- Lead critical upgrades, patching, and infrastructure clean‑up to de‑risk legacy systems and strengthen our technical foundation.
- Identify, diagnose, and resolve infrastructure challenges proactively and independently.
- Keep pace with AI-driven developments and emerging DevOps tooling, bringing relevant innovations into how we operate.
- Collaboration and stakeholder engagement
- Work closely with engineering, product, and IT teams to align infrastructure goals with business needs.
- Communicate clearly about infrastructure decisions, trade‑offs, and risks to both technical and non‑technical stakeholders.
- Contribute to a culture of shared ownership, continuous improvement, and engineering excellence across the team.
We are open-minded about background, and we care more about how you think and operate than whether your CV maps perfectly to the list below. The strongest candidates will likely bring:
The essentials
- Extensive experience designing and managing scalable, multi-cloud environments across GCP and AWS.
- Advanced expertise in Terraform for infrastructure as code.
- Proven experience leading cloud migration projects, including on‑premises to cloud transitions and hybrid infrastructure.
- Deep expertise in Kubernetes, including optimising and managing containerised workloads at scale.
- A track record of tackling complex tech debt, driving critical upgrades and risk mitigation with a business-focused approach.
- Strong understanding of modern DevOps practices including automation, observability, and CI/CD pipeline management.
- Experience working in high-growth environments where tech stacks change quickly and priorities shift.
The mindset
- Proactive and hands‑on. You identify what needs doing and get on with it.
- Commercially aware. You make infrastructure decisions with business impact in mind, not just technical elegance.
- Curious about where the DevOps and AI space is heading and keen to bring that thinking into your work.
- A strong communicator who can work effectively across engineering and non-engineering teams.
- Comfortable with ambiguity and able to prioritise well when everything feels urgent.
Our tech stack
- Cloud: Google Cloud Platform and AWS.
- Infrastructure as code: Terraform.
- Containerisation: Kubernetes across cloud and on-premises datacentres.
- Product stack: Ruby on Rails backend, React frontend, some Clojure services.
- CI/CD: in active development and improvement.
You will be a great fit if
- You are a thoughtful problem solver. We operate in a fast-moving environment where priorities evolve and technical challenges require sound judgement. You bring strong architectural thinking, make considered infrastructure decisions, and are comfortable navigating ambiguity while maintaining high standards.
- You take ownership end to end. You are comfortable taking a problem from initial diagnosis through to a production-ready solution. You take responsibility for outcomes and balance performance, security, reliability, and maintainability without needing to be chased.
- You raise the bar for DevOps engineering. You care deeply about infrastructure as code, modularity, and clean, well-documented systems. You participate actively in technical discussions, contribute to engineering standards, and leave infrastructure more robust and maintainable than you found it.
- You are security conscious by default. You understand authentication flows, network security, data protection principles, and secure infrastructure practices. You champion best practice and are comfortable working in a high-trust, high-responsibility environment where our clients are senior leaders at major organisations.
- You think about the wider business. You care about building the right infrastructure, not just technically elegant solutions. You enjoy collaborating across engineering, product, and IT, and you make decisions with business impact in mind as well as technical merit.
- You are a collaborative teammate. We work closely across Engineering, Product, and IT. You share knowledge, support others, and contribute to a culture of high performance and mutual respect.
We pride ourselves on our great working environment and package. Here’s some of what’s on offer:
- Pension scheme.
- Personal performance bonus.
- 26 days holiday each calendar year.
- Bupa health & dental cover.
- Group life assurance.
- EAP.
- Cycle to work scheme.
