As a Staff Backend Engineer, you will lead the technical direction of our Scala + Python data and agent infrastructure. You’ll own long‑term architecture across multiple systems and scale both existing and greenfield services to keep our data fresh, our APIs fast, and customer workflows moving. This is a role for someone who wants to set the bar for technical excellence, mentor other engineers, and take responsibility for hard distributed systems problems with minimal safety nets and a small, senior team.
What You’ll Do
- Design and build resilient backend services and APIs
- Own high‑level system architecture and major technical decisions across multiple systems
- Oversee critical data pipelines from ingestion to enrichment to delivery
- Architect systems for 100× data growth over the next three years
- Lead major cross‑team initiatives and complex project delivery end to end
- Partner with ML leaders on model integration and agent architecture
- Build reliability and test coverage into the code itself with no separate QA layer
- Improve performance, scalability, and observability across our stack
- Mentor engineers through direction, feedback, and day‑to‑day support
- Raise the engineering bar through design reviews, pairing, and clear technical standards
- Optimize for real impact, customer outcomes, and fast iteration over theoretical perfection
- Use next‑gen AI tools to improve code quality and velocity
