Role overview: The Business Scrum Lead drives agile delivery and business outcomes within a cross-functional business pod. Partnering closely with the Product Owner, stakeholders, and delivery teams, the Scrum Lead facilitates the agile ceremonies, manages flow of work (inclusive of delivering business initiatives), removes impediments, manages cross platform dependencies, and continuously improves the team’s way of working. This role blends agile coaching, delivery orchestration, and stakeholder management of business centric pods to ensure value is delivered with transparency, robust / predictable timelines in alignment with strategic priorities (OKRs).
In this role, you’ll make an impact in the following ways:
- Facilitate daily stand-ups, backlog refinement, reviews, retrospectives and quarterly planning to support delivery against agreed commitments and priorities aligned to the intent of the PI / Sprint goals.
- Foster a culture of collaboration, focus, and continuous improvement using standards set.
- Partner with the Product Owner to ensure a clear, value-driven backlog which drives an orientated and achievable outcome.
- Help the pod apply prioritization frameworks and maintain a healthy flow of work.
- Use and review regularly delivery metrics and agile practices to improve flow, transparency and predictability.
- Identify and manage dependencies across teams and functions; escalate and resolve blockers quickly.
- Provide regular, concise updates on progress, risks, and decisions.
- Align stakeholders on scope, outcomes, timelines, and trade-offs; maintain a visible delivery roadmap.
- Surface delivery risks early and drive mitigation plans.
- Ensure the team follows applicable governance and control expectations in coordination with risk and compliance partners.
- Diagnose bottlenecks and inefficiencies; experiment with data-informed improvements.
- Coach team members and stakeholders in agile principles, roles, and practices.
- Translating initiatives into measurable outcomes and partner with business leads to define and track benefits.
- Ensure business kanban boards reflect delivery to quarterly objectives and strategic outcomes.
- Maintain high-quality work tracking, managing risks and dependencies in tools such as Jira/Confluence and Tpro (or equivalents).
- Promote and ensure shared standards for definitions of ready/done, acceptance criteria, and working agreements are in place.
To be successful in this role, we’re seeking the following:
- Proven experience in agile delivery, business change, or product/portfolio management, as a Scrum Master or equivalent.
- Demonstrated success leading cross-functional teams in complex, regulated environments.
- Familiarity with agile frameworks (Scrum, Kanban) and scaling concepts (e.g., SAFe, LeSS) is a plus.
- Certifications such as CSM/PSM, PMI-ACP, or equivalent are advantageous.
- Strong proficiency with agile tooling (Jira, Confluence or similar) and delivery reporting.
- Client obsession and outcome orientation with the ability to connect backlog items to tangible business value.
- Excellent facilitation and communication skills; adept at simplifying complexity and driving alignment.
- Stakeholder management across business, operations, risk/compliance, and technology.
- Analytical mindset with the ability to use metrics to inform decisions and improvements.
- Proactive problem-solving; quick to identify impediments and mobilize resolution.
