We're seeking a future team member for the role of Senior Vice President, Counsel – Investments to join our Legal team. This role is located in Manchester or London.

You will serve as a day-to-day advisor for BNY Investments' affiliated investment firms in the UK and their related, international business. These include Newton Investment Management, Walter Scott & Partners and BNY Mellon Investment Management EMEA.

You'll join the BNY Investments & Wealth practice within the broader BNY Legal department—an experienced, collaborative team across the UK, US, Hong Kong, Japan and Brazil.

You'll bring a working knowledge of investment management regulation, with some hands-on experience of working in the investment management sector.

What you'll do:

  • Partner with commercial teams supporting client mandates.
  • Advise on UK and international legal/regulatory issues across the investment management lifecycle.
  • Negotiate and draft investment management agreements for a broad client base (including sovereign and government-related entities, pension schemes, UCITS managers and AIFMs).
  • Support trading and derivatives activity, including counterparty documentation and related powers, authorities and representations required in client documentation.
  • Work closely with Compliance on FCA requirements and broader regulatory change, and help shape firm policies and procedures.
  • Contribute to key Legal initiatives, partnering with colleagues globally on time-sensitive work.
  • Bring pragmatic judgement to new products and services—helping teams move quickly.

What you'll bring:

  • Qualified solicitor or barrister (England & Wales)
  • Relevant experience (top-tier law firm and/or in-house)
  • Collaborative style and the ability to deliver succinct, practical advice
  • Working knowledge of FSMA and the FCA Handbook
  • A pragmatic, solutions-first approach; comfortable as a true business partner
  • Sound judgement in identifying and managing legal risk
