We’re seeking a future team member for the role of Counsel to join our Asset Servicing Legal team. The attorney who fills this role will be expected to contribute as part of a larger team and to independently advise the Asset Servicing business. Asset Servicing primarily provides fund accounting, transfer agency, middle office, custody and sub-custody services.
Serving as a trusted internal resource and key legal advisor on significant business transactions, regulatory matters and strategic initiatives. Liaising with a variety of key BNY stakeholders, including lines of business, business partners and senior leadership, to ensure that any material legal issues are properly identified, escalated and mitigated.
Managing the drafting and negotiation of a variety of service agreements with clients, and related provider agreements with third party banks that underpin BNY’s custody service offering. Demonstrating the ability to handle a broad portfolio of legal issues. Working collaboratively, seeking guidance and input from colleagues throughout the organization to ensure solutions align to global legal strategies.
Partnering with colleagues who also serve in an advisory or oversight capacity, such as those in Risk, Audit, Compliance, etc. Managing outside counsel, reviewing work for appropriateness, quality and alignment to expectations. Developing a broad understanding of BNY products and services.
A qualified Solicitor or Barrister currently licensed to practice in either Ireland or UK (or equivalent qualifying location) with ideally 3-8 years PQE, relevant experience gained from a leading law firm. Prior substantive knowledge and experience in the Financial Services industry (e.g., Investment Servicing or Investment Management) is preferred.
A clear communicator that can deliver legal advice in layman’s terms and lead discussions with relevant stakeholders. The candidate must also have excellent legal and business judgment as well as strong negotiation skills. Strong analytical, problem-solving and drafting skills with proven ability to drive projects to completion. Ability to manage multiple projects and priorities in a fast-paced environment. Experience working with technology, software, digital assets, blockchain, data and analytics legal issues, a strong plus.
