You will use AI‑enabled capabilities to improve how work gets done, while ensuring what ships is secure, scalable, resilient and truly worth building.

Responsibilities

  • Build trust, share credit, and strengthen cross‑functional execution.
  • Design and build fit‑for‑purpose architectures that balance simplicity, quality, scale, and security.
  • Simplify systems and workflows by removing friction, toil, and unnecessary handoffs.
  • Create durable reusable patterns, guardrails, and tooling that accelerate team delivery.
  • Quickly ramp up in new domains, technologies, and problem spaces, adapting as needs evolve.
  • Apply strong engineering fundamentals across software design, data, testing, and distributed systems.
  • Use AI‑enabled tools deliberately across design, coding, testing, review, and documentation, while keeping strong human accountability for high‑risk decisions, verification, and final quality.
  • Build software with a reliability‑first mindset, incorporating secure coding practices, observability, testing, and disciplined rollout/rollback strategies.
  • Ensure production systems meet required levels of resiliency, performance, scalability, and operability.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related discipline, or equivalent practical experience; advanced degree a plus.
  • Extensive professional software development experience, with demonstrated depth in full‑stack engineering and system/application architecture.
  • Prior experience in securities, financial services, or modern engineering‑first organisations is a plus.
  • Strong proficiency in Java, Spring Boot, SQL, and the design of RESTful and streaming‑based APIs.
  • Hands‑on experience delivering cloud‑native solutions, including microservices, containerisation, and modern deployment patterns.
  • Working knowledge of NoSQL and distributed data stores, selected and applied appropriately at scale.
  • Experience leveraging AI‑enabled capabilities—including GenAI or ML‑driven services—to enhance developer productivity, system intelligence, or customer outcomes, with a pragmatic understanding of responsible use, scalability, and integration into enterprise platforms.

How to prepare for a job interview at BNY

Brush Up on Your Coding Skills

For a full-time software engineering role, it's crucial that we stay sharp with our coding abilities. Expect technical questions that might involve solving problems on the spot or discussing algorithms. Practise on platforms like LeetCode or HackerRank to get comfortable with the types of questions that often come up.

Know Your Tools and Frameworks

Make sure we’re well-acquainted with the tools and technologies listed in the job description. Familiarise ourselves with any specific frameworks or programming languages mentioned. If BNY uses React or Node.js, for instance, be ready to discuss how we’ve used them in previous projects or coursework.

Showcase Your Projects

Bring along a portfolio that highlights our best work. This could be code samples, GitHub repositories, or any side projects we’ve built. Make sure we can talk through our thought process for each project, especially the challenges we faced and how we solved them—this shows our problem-solving skills in action.

Prepare for Behavioural Questions

While technical skills are key, full-time positions also require cultural fit. Be ready to discuss our previous experiences and how we handle teamwork, conflict, and deadlines. Brush up on the STAR method—Situation, Task, Action, Result—to clearly articulate our past experiences when discussing how we've contributed to a team.
