Jewish Community Programme & Digital Engagement Manager
Jewish Community Programme & Digital Engagement Manager
Description
Job Type: Full-time
Salary: Competitive, dependent on experience
Reports to: Head of Community Engagement (programme delivery) and Head of Marketing, Brand, Communications & Performance (digital engagement & content)
About the Role
BNJC is looking for a highly organised, energetic and culturally connected Jewish Community Programme & Digital Engagement Manager to bring our programme to life and share it with the world. This is a genuinely dual role, split approximately 50% programme delivery and 50% digital engagement and content, reporting to each Head of Department for their respective areas of work.
On the programme side, this is a hands‑on delivery role at the heart of BNJC. You will plan, coordinate and deliver a vibrant programme of Jewish cultural, community and social experiences across the year — from cultural events, talks, workshops and celebrations to community gatherings, festivals and family activity — working closely with colleagues, volunteers, community champions and partners. You will be visible and present on site, including evenings and weekends, ensuring events are well organised, welcoming and delivered to a high standard.
On the digital side, you will be a core part of BNJC's marketing and communications capability. You will own the day‑to‑day content calendar, create and publish engaging content across our channels, manage digital community conversations, deliver email marketing and report on engagement — building BNJC's digital presence year‑round, not only around events.
This is not a desk‑based programming role. You will be on the ground, making things happen — and capturing and sharing them as you go.
Key Responsibilities
- Coordinate and deliver a year‑round programme of Jewish cultural, community and social activity at BNJC.
- Turn programme ideas into clear, deliverable plans, timelines and event briefs.
- Work closely with the Events Logistic Manager to support coordination of venues, logistics, suppliers, artists, speakers, performers, facilitators and other partners.
- Manage the practical delivery of events from initial planning through to completion, working within budgets agreed and owned by the Head of Community Engagement.
- Be present at events, providing hands‑on coordination and front‑of‑house leadership.
- Ensure events are welcoming, inclusive, well organised and delivered in line with BNJC's standards, policies and procedures, with appropriate risk assessments, safeguarding, security and operational considerations.
- Execute the programme calendar, ensuring activity is coordinated across BNJC's different spaces and business units.
- Work creatively around the Jewish calendar, national events, contemporary Jewish culture and opportunities within the local community.
- Gather feedback after events and use learning to continually improve programme quality and participation.
2. Community Engagement & Volunteers
- Build strong relationships with members of the BNJC community and identify opportunities to increase participation.
- Recruit, coordinate and support volunteers and Community Champions to contribute to events and activities, giving them clear roles, responsibilities and support so they can take meaningful ownership.
- Develop a strong culture of volunteering, participation and community‑led activity.
- Listen to community ideas and feedback and translate them into practical programming opportunities.
- Build relationships across different generations and sections of the Jewish community, as well as with the wider Brighton & Hove community.
- Own and maintain BNJC's ongoing content calendar across social media, email and other digital channels, a year‑round rhythm of content, not only event promotion.
- Create, edit and publish engaging content, including short‑form video, photography and written posts, in an appropriate BNJC voice.
- Capture photo and video content on site, at events and across day‑to‑day community life.
- Plan, build and schedule email campaigns through HubSpot or equivalent platforms.
- Monitor and respond to Instagram comments, DMs, WhatsApp groups and other community communications, ensuring enquiries are answered promptly and accurately.
- Work with the marketing team to plan and deliver campaigns around events, initiatives and BNJC's wider offer, and implement the post‑event marketing process consistently (content capture, follow‑up communications, audience engagement).
- Help grow audiences for BNJC events, programmes and community activity.
- Track, analyse and report on digital engagement metrics (reach, growth, open rates, click‑through, response times) to the marketing team, and use insight to improve content and communications.
- Liaison between Community Engagement and Marketing teams.
4. Partnerships & Cultural Networks
- Develop relationships with local artists, writers, musicians, performers, educators, academics and community organisations.
- Build connections with national Jewish cultural and communal organisations.
- Identify opportunities for collaboration, co‑production and partnership, and develop a network of contributors who can bring new ideas, experiences and audiences to BNJC.
- Represent BNJC warmly and professionally with external partners and community stakeholders.
5. Administration & Reporting
- Deliver activity within budgets agreed and owned by the respective Heads of Department; obtain supplier, artist and speaker quotes and track spend against allocations.
- Maintain accurate event records, contacts and programme information.
- Report on programme delivery, attendance and community impact to the Head of Community Engagement, and on digital metrics and online engagement to the Head of Marketing — recognising these are distinct measures serving different purposes.
- Evaluate activity against agreed objectives and use data to inform future programming and communications.
6. Working Across BNJC
- Work directly with the Head of Community Engagement and the Head of Marketing, Brand, Communications & Performance, and their wider teams.
- Work closely with marketing in supporting the restaurant, nursery, health & wellbeing, stays, facilities and other BNJC teams to maximise opportunities for cross‑community engagement.
- Help create a joined‑up experience for anyone engaging with BNJC, and be a visible, positive and proactive presence across the BNJC site.
Person Specification
Experience
- Experience delivering community programmes, cultural events, festivals, arts activity or similar projects, taking ideas from concept through to successful delivery.
- Experience creating content for social media and digital channels, including photography/video capture and short‑form editing.
- Experience coordinating events, suppliers, contributors, volunteers or partners.
- Experience with email marketing platforms (HubSpot or similar) and social media management would be advantageous.
- Experience of working in a community, cultural, charitable or membership organisation would be advantageous.
Jewish & Community Understanding
- Strong knowledge of Jewish culture, traditions, festivals and contemporary Jewish life.
- A genuine interest in creating vibrant, relevant and accessible Jewish experiences.
- Understanding of the diversity of Jewish identity, interests and participation, and knowledge of and connection to Jewish communal life.
- Hebrew language skills would be advantageous.
Skills & Attributes
- Highly organised and delivery‑focused, with excellent attention to detail.
- A natural "make it happen" person — energetic, creative and proactive.
- Excellent relationship‑building, interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills.
- Confident working with volunteers, community members, artists, speakers and external partners.
- Strong social media and content creation skills, including photography/video and short‑form editing.
- Comfortable using digital platforms such as HubSpot, Instagram, Canva and comparable tools, and using AI tools to support content creation and workflow efficiency.
- Able to manage multiple priorities, deadlines and events simultaneously, balancing two areas of responsibility.
- Comfortable working independently while collaborating effectively across teams.
- Warm, welcoming and responsive, with a strong customer and community focus.
- Comfortable working flexibly and being visible on site during evenings and weekends.
Working Pattern
This is a full‑time, predominantly on‑site role. Because BNJC's programme takes place when our community is available — including evenings, weekends, Jewish festivals and other peak periods — the role requires regular evening and weekend working. The successful candidate will need to be comfortable working flexibly around the programme calendar, with time off in lieu or other arrangements used appropriately where additional hours are required.

- Growing participation from across the Jewish community and wider Brighton & Hove.
- A strong and active network of volunteers and Community Champions.

- A consistent, engaging content presence that brings BNJC's activity to life year‑round.
- Growing audiences and engagement across BNJC's digital channels.
- Prompt, warm and accurate responses to community enquiries across all channels.
- Strong follow‑up and audience engagement after events, and clear, regular reporting on digital performance.
